ABS & TCS warning lights

Hi All,
in Cornwall drove over some rough ground which seemed to have activated both the ABS and TCS warning lights. Continued even after restarting car - they came on when reaching 15-20mph. Nothing in the owners manual about this one  Huh

When I next got into drive I turned off the TCS then turned it on again - problem solved. Trouble is I wanted to run a scan whilst the fault was active.

Anyway, ran the scan and it showed 'no codes'. Looked at the 'enhanced' codes and the one that tests for 'TCS on' came back as "NO".  Huh (all other codes for TCS in enhanced failed to return answer!?)

So now I'm really puzzled and got 3 queries:
first, was the likely cause of the problem a loose connection? (I had all the wheels off just before hols but dont recall knocking anything)
2nd, why did scan show no codes?
3rd, why does the scan say TCS not active when I've got it on?

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Cheers,

Hi,

don't know if this helps but anyway.....

Our Scorp did this a couple of months or so ago: basically, if the lights go out when the engine starts then the systems are passing the self test. Should the lights come on again when moving it is probably a sensor fault, and a rear one at that as the abs sensors are also used by the traction control too so both lights will illuminate. Our fault was dirty sensors. Half an hour to clean both, lights have behaved since. Maybe the rough ground loosened (sp?) some dirt and clogged the sensors? Worth a go.

Hope this helps  Smiley

Cheers

hi there

all abs codes are in the iso format. you need the tricom or triple combo lead to be able to scan them (just about).

Hi,

Thanks Dave, I'll have a go at the sensors.

ScorpioMan, I thought you just needed the PMW & ISO lead to read the ABS codes. Do you really need all 3 for this?

Cheers,

hi there

sorry, my mistake Embarassed i've just not heard of anyone having the double combo before. the error code reading appears to be a bit hit and miss, so to speak, at the moment. i think the VE software for reading abs codes is not completely compatible with the scorpio. i or 2 people on the mailing list have tried it, but i don't recall much success.

Thanks Highlander,
the ABS is working (throbbing from the pedal)

I've checked the site for other info and along with Daves suggestion I'm going to have a go at cleaning and regreasing the sensors - they've also been noted to cause the same problem in the wet.

Hats off to the guys who not only are dealing with the complicated Scorp but are doing it in another language!

If I had to learn how to fix my Scorp in Norwegian then I think I would be driving a Fiesta!! Wink
