ABS/Rear bearing

In common with many on the site my car has had: Rear bearings fail Rear sensors rubbed by the sensor ring due to bearing failure ABS trying to work at low speed (less than 10 mph) I tried all recommended things - except replacing parts. It’s been like this since I bought the car at the start of the year, usually the light stays on, but every now & then it goes out, only to come on when I pull up at the end of the road. I wondered if reducing the air gap between sensor & sensor ring might do some good. The near side rear sensor had some scuff marks on it, the sensor protruded 1mm from the plastic. The off side rear sensor was worn practically flush to the plastic i.e. 1mm shorter. The sleeve that the bolt passes through also protrudes about 1mm so I decided to file it practically flush to the plastic thereby bringing the sensor closer to the sensor ring. I’ve just taken the car for a run, tried a couple of emergency stops & several key-off/restarts & it’s worked perfectly for the first time in 7 months. See how it goes tomorrow! Dave

Well, I hope you're pleased with yourself and that you can sleep tonight. You should be ashamed. You've just diddled your local Ford Garage out of a few hundred quid by fixing it yourself.
