Undecided

I noticed a 2 foot wide oil stand on the driveway where the cars been sat for 3 months. I jacked up the front and whipped the under tray off of the scorp on Saturday and had a look. The oil cooler lines are damp and corroded, but thats not enough. Somewhere around the alternator area theres minor leak(s) and now the beasty is comprehensively rustproofed  Wink Its not like anythings dripping noticeably.

What with definitely needing a new battery, I am kind of unsure what if money to put into the 12v. Is anyone aware of any common problems with ATF hoses, and how much they cost roughly?

The snag is (and its this sites fault!!!) that I've now set my heart on owing a 1998 Lexus LS400 and now the wifes got a new car, I can have her old Rover 600 diesel.

I really am unsure what to do (the lex would be a year away) ........

If anyone can set me straight I'd appreciate it  Smiley

The oil leeak around the alternator is most likely the power steering fluid pipe leaking .. easy to fix most likely you ned a new clip at the top.

Oil cooler pipes are also a relatively easy job to do .. You can cut the old pipe back to a good part and get some braided or rubber piping and put jubilee clips on it . It is NOT under high pressure . or alternatively get the puker ones from a dealership .. Not overly expensive .. try ford parts uk

chrali,
as you will know from one of my other posts I got rid of my scorp and ended forking out £3500 for a gearbox on my new car, oaky probably just bad luck for me but I realy do wish I had kept my scorp.
What I have spent on the new car including purchase price and repairs I reckon I could have kept the scorp going for a good few years.
dont get me wrong I do like my new car but there isnt a day goes by that I don't think of the scorp.

Too be honest I'd rather keep the scorp, but then I have to sell the trusty rover diesel that does 50mpg (with only the occasional burning smell, rolls like a ship in a hurricane etc Grin).

I assumed that it was ATF as there was an ATF bottle in the boot. Does the PS reservoir take ATF? I'll check the PAS level when I can get into the car.

Still debating with the insurance over the keys issue as I cannot afford to pay and claim back the bill.

Also do the oil cooler pipes need flanges, otherwise wont the pipes pop off?

If you do the repair with 9mm fuel pipe it will be tight on the metal pipes and push it on far enough to get a couple of jubillee clips on each end it will never move - as snoopy said earlier there is no great pressure in the pipes anyway

Had a similar thing happen on my old '93 Granada Scorpio 2.9i estate - the pipes from the autobox corroded at the rubber / metal joint - garage cut the bad bit out and used some metal pipe which he put a double flare on the end - like on a brake pipe - to make sure it wouldn't pop out of the rubber pipe, and fitted it all together with jubilee clips - never leaked and he only charged me £20 cash ! Can't complain at that.

They won't pop off if you push the new pipe on far enough 2.5 cm should be enough and a PROPER jubilee clip... . Yes the power steering also takes ATF
