Weebles wobble but they don't drive Scorps

Got no legs see? Probably banging my head against a brick wall but what with all you scorp knowing peeps out there I thought I'd ask the question. My Scorpio has a shaky steering wheel at speed, it gets worse around 50mph and is more severe if braking at that speed. There is also a tendency under light braking to brake more less more less more less, which would suggest to me warped discs. When I got the car I thought the discs looked quite new but I accept that that doesn't mean they're not warped. Also, I asked my local tyre place to do the tracking last month so hoping that's not the prob. Am going to change the discs and pads next week. So..... My question is this, if after changing discs, the wobble doesn't completely disappear, what would you try next? Thanks, Mark

Could be a wheel balance problem, which the local tyre shop should be able to sort. But could also be a buckled wheel or dented rim....which the tyre shop should also be able to tell you If the brakes are warped, then it will cause shaking in the steering when breaking, but not usually when driving You could have a mixture of warped discs & unbalanced wheels

i had 2 new tyres fitted to my mk3,the bill of sale said...2 tyres..2 valves and 2 balancing...nice i thought.....went on the M25 a couple of days ago...wheel wobble at 51mph...up to 58mph.i went back to the tyre centre...told the chap what happened...i asked the chap to check wheel balancing...he did.....it was way out...re-balanced the wheels...f-o-c....took the car up to 51mph..and then up to 70mph...all ok now.so have that looked at...if i said the tyre centre name..jc would know where i mean... ..but its a good tyre centre and i will continue to go there.

What tyre place is that Den ? Mark.....can you drive through it....i.e. starts at at 50mph, worst at 55mph, then gets better at 60+mph ? If so, then it sounds like a balance problem/dented rim. If the shaking gets worse & worse the faster you go, then it's probably a buckled wheel or a steering /suspension problem

| Yes Jonnycab, that's exactly what happens. If I'm honest only this morning I wondered myself how a warped disc could make it more severe at a certain speed. As I already found a rear wheel to be buckled, it could be possible that a front is as well. Thought they would have checked that at the MOT but obviously not. Cheers, Mark

wishbone bushes on the front arms can do that too, the large rear one especially

Right then, Finally got off my behind and jacked up the car to spin the wheels. Surprise surprise another buckled wheel on the o/s/f. Swapped it for the o/s/r (looked ok) and the wobble during acceleration/deceleration is now tolerable but.... Still a fairly severe shake when braking around 50mph which seems worse when going downhill rather than uphill. As for bushes, I would like to "superflex" them if poss but they're website only lists Granada MK3 and Scorpio. Was the front suspension carried over from the MK3 on these cars? Cheers Mark
