Remote fob..

When i had a transit company van years ago (Y reg)  i noticed the remote fob was similar style to the scorpio ones...

does anyone know if these will code for a scorp as well as i can get these much cheaper from breakers than a scorp part as transits are everywhere unlike scorps..

Cheers dudes..

The short answer is NO. This avenue has been explored many times without success. As I understand it the 'code' system is totally different.  Wink

That's annoying!

I asked because the key style remotes (with the 3 buttons on the key) work on many models, I took a key out of a late scrap police focus and it worked fine once coded on my mk2 mondeo...

only cost a fiver so i was hoping to do the same with the scorp..

Years ago we even tried some American remotes from Mustangs and even some Volvos use a two button version which looks identical.... none worked and believe me I have spent some money on remotes and postage from the USA to check this out!! I even bought two of each remote from different sellers just in case one was faulty!!

Why then does a Two Button "Toad" remote partially work on mine ?
(Just locks/unlocks....... no deadlock on double press, no tailgate unlock)

It came with the car when I bought it, changed it for the proper 3 Button Scorpio one, even though the Toad has been in the glove box for over 12 mths it still works without re-programming.  Huh

Is the toad for an aftermarket alarm thats been fitted, your car may have 2 alarms on it. I have 2 alarms on mine . The original and a aftermarket one. and 2 different remotes, The aftermarket 1 that just locks it and unlocks which doesn't need programming, and the proper one............

I have no Idea if It has an aftermarket fitted, I haven't come across anything unusual looking and the only alarm horn sound is the Ford one

Toad alarms have a central locking interface which allows the car to be unlocked and locked using the Toad remote (which means you don't have to turn off the alarm before opening the central locking because if you get it the wrong way round, the volt drop would set off the alarm!) Most hp market alarms offer the function.

You will have a fitted toad system somewhere in the car which is tapped into the central locking circuitry which makes the toad alarm fob work.

Personally If you don't use the toad, I would find it all and disconnect it as it could be a source of problems in the future.

I once had a Sierra cut out in the middle lane of the motorway.... the AA found it had an old alarm which had an imobilser that had gone whacky. I didn't even know the alarm was on there (i bought it second hand) and it caused all sorts of problems! The previous owner never mentioned an aftermarket alarm and it turned out that it had got water inside the control box and because it was still connected to the power source, it had caused the imobilser circuit to kick in by shorting some internal wiring or other inside the box.

I would check inside the bonnet or up behind the dash as it will have a Toad box somewhere that is still connected into the Scorpio systems Lester

For why?

I could buy a kit like this...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Keyless-Remote-Control-Entry-System-Central-Lo cking_W0QQitemZ150390510408QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2303f91348

The get a good mate of mine who is an autospark to fit it for me, i know he's fitted similar kits to his cars with good effect..

job's a good 'un presumably... unless you know different??

Baz refers to the fact that these aftermarket alarms can,and have, caused problems because of the Scorpio's wiring system. I can only suggest you talk it through very carefully with your 'Sparks' and be sure he knows the detail of the Scorpio. Cheesy  Baz's comments are the result of many years association with these cars  Wink

10mpg.
It certainly is cheap,it could be nasty as well !! it is of course intended for fitment to cars without remote locking, yours already has it.By far the most satisfactory way of doing it would be to get a proper working Scorpio fob. When I was at the breakers looking at some Scorpio remains I asked him where the keys to them were,he said"we chuck em away","what about the fobs?"asked I,"yeh them too"said he !! I asked him to keep them and would give him a fiver each.
You must be able to obtain one for £10 or £15 either on here or ebay, how hard have you tried ?
Before doing anything involving intervention into the loom bear in mind what Simmo said, you could be making a rod for your back.

I hear what your saying, i've bid £30 on three different remotes on ebay over the last couple of years, these have been the only ones that are guaranteed to be working and don't look like they're are battered to hell, needless to say i didn't win any of them...

Most of the 15 quid ones are not guaranteed to be working and/or look rough and given their propensity for packing up completely i cant see the point in buying one of these ones...

i cant see the point in paying 40 odd quid for what is potentially a 15 year old remote fob that might not even last the week....
