Hi just bought a 1997 Ford Scorpio Ultima firstly, all the dials and clocks on the dash flash on and off including the speedometer and now the headlights have just shut off although the indicators still work on the front and the rear lights all work perfectly fine
I was just wondering if you could help me as I rely on my car for mobility and it has us totally baffled!
My partner has had the dashboard off and checked for loose wiring he has checked all the fuses would truly appreciate any help you would be able to give thanks!

It might be worth checking the multiplug that goes to the drivers side fuse box, it's very easy to get it plugged in wrong.

Can we get a bit more info?

Engine?
Auto or manual?
Does the engine crank and start?
Does the car drive?

When you say the speedo goes of and on do you mean the needle jumps about or the actual lights behind it?

yeah sure the engine is 2.3 16v Manual transmission Yeah the engine starts and it drives quite well every now and then though whilst driving it loses power/pull but picks  back up quickly but that is a rare occurrence
the lights stay on just the digital clocks and the speedometer water gage and petrol gage all go off and on can stay on for a little while but all disappear after going a bit crazy thanks mate

Sounds like an intermittent power supply problem to the dashboard electronics? Dirty fuse / relay contacts?

Have a look at this thread, might be a dodgy ignition relay (21) try swapping it with 18 if you have it.

Losing the power and picks up again, could that be the MAF or maybe a vacuum leak............ Just a suggestion..... perhaps someone will say maybe or not.......

Or bad electricals cutting the ignition, which relates it to the dashboard problem?
