Battery help needed,urgent!

Can anyone help me please. I've just changed the battery on my 1998 2.3 Scorpio, disaster, it's in front of my other Scorpio on the drive and won't start, the tachometer is going up and down like mad, so I'm stuck.  I changed the battery because I was getting the flicking needles etc. that I've read about on this site.  I had the battery checked and this confirmed that it was on its way out.  Before I started to change the battery I checked with the Ford main dealer if there would be any problems and they said it would be ok, it's not, help!

youve probably got one of the wires for the imobiliser left off, its a common mistake. check all the wires to the batt, especially the small black one

hi there

make sure you've connected all the leads to both sides of the battery. two small black ones always fall back down behind the battery!

Thanks for all the help.  I've tried drilling a hole and pushing the needle but it swings back to the stop.  I charged the battery overnight to make sure it is fully charged.  If all of the speedo ideas fail, has anyone got a speedo for sale for a '98 2.3 facelift model? Huh

hi there

take the battery back off for 10mins. that should clear it. or try an instrument reset. hold the trip button in for 10 seconds to enter diagnostic mode, then switch off and back on again. the neddles should flick around and back again.

Grin Wonderful! Thanks Scorpio man, the reset button trick put it right.  I've e-mailed the big boss with radio details. Thanks again!
