seeking a bit of advice here,i know a few members have bought and upgraded to the above system,i'm thinking of doing the same (i know, when will it all end),looking around ebay and such, they seem to be quite abundent on the ground, but is it just a case of a straight swap over ?,i know not to buy one without the aerial and the disc, but is there anything else i shuld know, does it work with the steering wheel controls, can you still use the boot changer,do i need anything else to go with it....
ANY advice would be most welcome,as in car entertainment is not my thing really (well the audio side of things anyway Wink)...
big thanks in anticipation

Hi Craig,

I think Barry Jones is your man to ask. I seem to remember it was easier to fit than the Travelpilot in terms of connections and things.

Take care Buddy,

Will be in touch soon.

Craig,

Danny is right, the VNR is easier to fit than the travelpilot (which I have) but the travelpilot does look better when installed in the Scorpio. The VNR has a thicker front bezel and just doesn't look quite as good. I have had both in mine and prefer the Travelpilot.

The connections for the VNR are the same as the 7000 radio (including the CD changer) and everything works with the exception of the steering wheel controls which will not work because the RIM is different or something (I never bother anyway as my arms are long enough to press the buttons on the radio!)

I also think that the software for the VNR is too out of date in comparison. The current VNR one is 2003-2004 whereas the Tracvelpilot is on 2005 and has been 2003-2004, 2004, 2004-2005. They update every 6 months or so.

Just my opinion, but the VNR just seems to be a little too fussy for me with the colour maps and zoomable images etc.

I have a Galaxy sat nav system (ready for the wifes new car in September!!) and that is all maps and has dvd input and all that!!

If you need photos, or installation instructions, pinouts etc. I do have them somewhere

I'm just not keen on having bits of brackets stuck on the windscreen or dashboard. I like mine and the womens voice is ever so sexy!!!

You can buy them online from Teleatlas for about £91.00 or EBay for about £67.00 for the up to date maps. I change mine every year and sell the old one on EBay, almost pays for itself!!

I have bought the latest 2005 French and UK map discs with TMC ready for the trip to South of France. The UK disk was £135.00 and the French disk was £65.00

The disks themselves incorporate the latest any-copying software so copying them is not an option anymore (hasn't been since 2002-2003)

What radio is yours? and if the car was broken into, isn't it covered under the insurance?

hello!

i havent been online for about a week or so, due to my computer going caput....

now then, the vnr9000.....  i bought mine from ebay a few weeks ago, and it cost me 261.50

its a straight swop for the 7000, all the plugs go straight in the back.  everything works as the 7000, ie the cd changer and the steering wheel joystick.

you will need a gps aerial, i bought one from maplin for 18 quid, and changed the plug on the end, as its a strange one on the vnr.

I have been told since then, that the alpine gps aerial fits, apparently they are on ebay for around 25 quid

you will also need a copy of the nav cd. just ask me nicely!  Wink

any more info required, just get in touch... and YES, its a great system! im very happy now  Grin  Grin  Grin

donnie...
sorry to hear about the computer Angry, but glad all is sorted out now Grin, can you just confirm one thing for me,you say all the plugs are the same, and everything works as before (which i would like),but barry mentions that when he did his,the steering wheel joystick didn't work, going by what i have heard,it sounds like i would prefer the VNR to the travel pilot, but want to be 100% sure before the credit card takes yet another hiding Wink

yes craig, i had the 7000 in my scorpio, i pulled it out, and plugged everything back in,, you cant go wrong mate, every plug is different, and only fits one way!

Yes, my steering wheel control does work, for volume, cd changing, channel changing etc... just as it did with the 7000. That was the real reason that i bought it, as i find im using the audio stalk more than the indicator one!  Wink  well, i am a taxi driver after all!

Anyway, one fianl word on software, the newest version for the 9000 is 2003, and i dont think it was even new in 2003 to be honest, They as supposed to be bringing out a 2005 version "early summer" whenever that is Huh as fas as i am aware the travel pilot is better updated than the vnr, it just depends what your gonna use it for, cos i dont think they have moved any of the towns and cities in years.... and when you get there, a bit of common sense, and a 9000 unit, you can find anywhere, and to be completely honest, its not likely you will ever get a disc as up to date as you would like it!

hope this helps,

donnie
