Anyone had this problem?.Took my 12v ultima for test and it failed on both sides of the rear brakes.Bought new pads and booked into garage for repair.Went to collect expecting a new m.o.t. only to be told that they didnt know what the fault was. Both pistons are free yet the fluid doesnt seem to be getting to the calipers as there isnt any pressure. Both front brakes are o.k.A.B.S. light sometimes comes on but isnt on all the time. Can anyone help please!

Sounds as though the master cylinder could be at fault That is where I would be looking. if fluid is present in the pipes at the rear brakes .

Thanks for that Snoopy.Front brakes are working fine and so the mechanic at the garage didnt suspect the master cylinder. Will have it checked a.s.a.p.

Have you looked at this http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/abssystem.htm. Reading through the description of how it works it appears there is a 'modulator' which distributes the pressure through three pipes. Two feed the front brakes and ONE feeds the rear brakes. There is also a post which details how to replace the modulator if that is needed. That post talks about the ABS light coming on intermittently as you mention.

Yeah the system is split into two. Fronts work on a different circuit to the back. Got to be your modulator block. Most cars have this kind of system can't think why your machanic wouldn't know

Hello to all.I have today done a thorough inspection of the brake circuit and found that on the modulator block there are three outlet fluid pipes, two of which have fluid present and one has none so i presume that this one(closest to front of vehicle)is the feed to the rear callipers. Can anyone tell me if the modulator is repairable or not or better still has any of you guys got one for sale then maybe i could swap them over to try eliminate the problem.Regards to all.

the 12v does NOT have traction control all you will need most probably is a new ABS pump assembly IMHO see here for info http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/absmodulator.htm

Thanks Snoopy. I ain't got one for a non t/c. You could just replace your alloy block & use your old brain I think but as the ABS light comes on sometimes I would replace the whole thing.

The ABS Modulators are as follows there is one for cars with Traction control 95/98 Finis 7086802 And two for cars without TC as they modified the unit after 96 .... BUT both fit and are compatable... Finis for those is 7087346 94/96 and post 96 1033504 So as long as you get one of a car without TC it will do the job.
