In my old Mk3 Scorpio I managed to get some 5" Kenwoods in with no extra cutting.

I remember when looking at the holes that it shouldn't be a problem fitting a pair of 5" speakers there, HOWEVER, I also noticed that the mesh in front could be a potential problem. If you like to listen to your music slightly above normal listening levels  Wink Bigger speakers _could_ start hitting the door trims, and possibly damage the speakers. You could ofcourse cut the meshes out and fit your own covers, but that wouldn't look nice imho.

right were going in!!!! I have decided to strip the door down ..soundproof the door with 2 layers of dynomatt..then Im going to carefully adapt the hole thats holding the 10cm ford speaker to take a new infinity component in 13cm size. Will get a scrap yard door panel to get it perfect first. tweeters are going in the top right hand of the door cards.

for the rears we are taking a dremel to the ford factory 6x4 s and they are coming out. going to epoxy the new infinitys into the existing house for a nice stealthy flush fitting.  I will take bit by bit photos and put them on a photobucket site for all to see the link if they want to that is ... I am determined to do this right and will also soundproof the boot and both rear doors...ohhh it ll be like my old jag when i shut them doors!!!

Nice  Grin

Got a call from the company I'm getting my infinity system from. They don't have the Kappa Perfect 12VQ woofer on stock at the moment, so I'll have to wait 8 days  Angry

However, all my amplifiers, wiring, asphalt mats, shaped foam dampening , power distributors, 150A fuses  Wink, bass ports and so on were shipped on time today, so that will leave me with SOMETHING to do while I await the shipment of the woofer and components.

Actually the amps are from a norwegian company called Eltek, which has their own brand called dynaBel (http://www.dynabel.no)

Have used their amps before and they have both excellent sound quality and power.

Used a bridged 4x80W amp bridged to 2x80W + 1x250W, and that managed to melt my previous woofer (cheap MGR F-series 12", supposed to handle 400W, which I got for next to nothing).

This setup will use the same 4x80 amp (4x130W RMS @ 2ohms, as the infinity components are) (but not bridged this time) to run the front and rear speakers, plus a 1x450W (1x450 @ 4ohms, 1x800W @ 2ohms) amp to drive the woofer.

Have ordered power cables rated for 200A and an automatic fuse rated for 150A (should do the trick  Grin)
The amps have internal fuses of 150A in total themselves.

The previous norwegian champion in dB drag won the pro/expert class with the same amplifiers (although using a couple more of them  Wink)

You MUST do a writeup on sound deadening. I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate that (me included)  Smiley

If it proves successfull it will definately be on my to do list.

Depending on what tyres I use and the road surface, tyre noise CAN be quite loud in the scorpio, atleast if you compare it to newer 5-series BMW or higher spec mercs (have tried both).

Ooh this makes me want to do my speakers.

I have my trusty MTX sub waiting to go in the back of the car but I need to hide it with a load cover first!

I got to say this Scorpio has been a treat to work on so far, with regards ICE.  I got my Ipod connector installed in the coin holder last week and there was acres of space inside the dash for the box of tricks.

Not to forget that it has loads of space for new door speakers + the location and mesh grille on the door speakers are actually quite good when it comes to sound reproduction. Only downside is the lack of depth in the parcel shelf.

got the old paper 6x4 out of the back speakers and went to halfords with the cage to try the fit on the jbl's.. 6x4s they have for sale..also had chance to listen to them in there...its a good fit ..this will work nicely going to use some bluetack to keep it from rattling and it should be a nice upgrade and totally stealth fitment ..no one will ever know. you will need to hammer a long flathead screwdriver under the magnet of the old ford speaker and wedge it about a bit to get her out ..then you are left with the housing...

these look like the ones i will use ......
