Hi, Can any one advise me about the tailgate on a 95 ultima estate.
I have ordered a new switch that fits into the tailgate latch, I am told by Ford this is the alarm switch, does this also act as the tailgate open switch or is there Roll Eyes Roll Eyes another switch on the lock, also the solenoid does not work, is there any diagrams of the lock mech, showing the rods that link the part together, I have tried on the site but could find nothing, I have the light on, on the dash saying the tailgate is open.

Richard had a thread going about this a couple of weeks back, was trying to work out what the 'two' switches on the lock were for, I'll see if I can find it.

It's not similar to the door setup is it? A plunger switch in the post somewhere?

Hi Thanks for the reply, I had a good look at it after fitting the latch switch, and as I thought there should be another switch, which fits into a bracket next to the lock, there is a nylon cam which turns to make and brake the switch, I am trying to get this switch, I had a bit of a run in with the guy at the local Ford dealer very off hand when I asked if he could answer a question, all I got back was Im not technical(just a prat)so I came out,
I will try every where else, I hope I do not have to go back there, they did not seem to care at all.
I even had to dfrive there to place the oder they would not take a card on the phone, I am wondering if they are on another planet or in a different time warp to me.
If you find a link I would be interested, Thanks.

Hello Colin,
HERE is the link, From what I can make out the one is to operate the solenoid and I think the other is for the alarm when using the key.
Unplug the loom and use a short wire from the red tracer wire to blue tracer wire, this should operate the solenoid, If not then either the solenoid gone or perhaps there is a fuse fault, You can take the switch apart and clean it up, it is a simple fix.

Hi Rich.
Mine is nothing like that, I have had a good look, mine is an Ultima 95 2l.
ther is one switch on the latch, which I have replaced by a new one from Ford who tell me this is the alarm switch.
There appears the cage for a second switch is attatched to the lock barrel, with a nylon cam that turns when the key is rotated, my problem is the switch is missinf from my car, I am sure this switch is the door ajar switch, as after changing the latch switch the light on the dash is still on.
I had a slight run in with a guy at the local Ford dealership, who would not take payment by card over the phone, I had to drive to them to order and pay for the switch, so then I had to go back a second time to get it. maybe the price of a galleon of petrol on top of the price of the switch.
When I went to collect the switch, I asked the guy if he could answer a question for me, im not technical he spat back, I said I wanted to ask if there was another switch like the one I had just bought, DONT KNOW was the reply, so I wont be going there again, I have recently purchased an XJ8 from them.
So I have contacted Fordparts on the net, they have reply, but what they have offered switch wise is nothing like mine, I have faxed a photo to them, so may get a reply tomorrow.
Minw has a nylon cam attatched to the lock barrel, there is a raised part on the underside(towards the lock) and there is a cage to clip in a switch like the latch switch, as you rotate the key the nylon cam turns to make and break the switch.
What car were the pictures of.?

This lock is off the estate so I expect the saloon to be different, There is also a nylon cam on this lock that operates the switch, Did you see this pick in the other thread.

Hi Rich
Yes I did but its completely differant than mine, I have a photo but do not know how to get it on this site.
mine had athin nylon disc that is held onto the lock spindle by a circlip, on the underside of the disc is an upstand, I think this acts as a cam, so that when the key is turned the cam rotates, to make and break the switch, I have been onto the Fordspres site, what they have offered me is also completely wrong.
I have sent tthem the photo, so will see what tomorrow brings.

Hi Rich
Sorry to break off had an urgent call.
My car is a 95 Scorpio Ultima 2Litre Estate, this part you are showing what is it off, I have nothing like it in mine.
I have one connection where someone has cut the wire off and I reckon have taken the switch off the lock, so I can only guess as to what should be there with what I have, I have taken the solenoid out as it appears  to be broken, hopefully I have another coming tomorrow off a broken cossie, I was worried that I would not beable to lock the tailgate, but by connecting up the manual rod it works fine, whether there is any power going to it as of I have not checked, I just want to get this tailgate light out on the dash.

If it is any help and from what I could see in the photo, the switch looks as if it might be a perfectly standard common micro switch. Maplin electonics and other similar electronics dealers stock these and they sell for around £1-50.

No it's not a micro switch, Two switches in one both push to break. The one for the solenoid acts in reverse so it makes contact only when the lock is pressed, The other only works when the key is turned in the lock breaking contact.

Colin, The lock is from my 97 2.3 Ultima estate, Unless they changed the switch later on then yours should be the same, You can see the part number in the pic and it starts with 95, BTW the switch clips onto the lock.

Hi Rich.
Sorry mate but mine is nothing like your picture, scopio man has posted the picture of the back side of my lock, I have just clipped in a switch to see if it would fit, the underside of the nylon disc has a raised part that would act as a cam when the key or solenoid is fired.
What I am trying to find out is what switch should be fitted to this lock spindle.

hi colin

think we're getting somewhere now. what is the part number of the switch that you bought? is it 7294977?

all (most) of the parts are different to mine, so as i said early, you must have the old style lock.

Hi
No the part number of ther part/switch I got from Ford a couple of days ago is F1035454, this is the one I have fitted to the latch, as I have said there is no switch on the lock barrel and some wires have been cut (see pictures) I took the old switch from the latch to see if it would fit on the lock barrel frame, it did, (see picture)
I have been buying some bits off a 96 brocken cossie, as I had this light problem I asked the guy if he still had the switch from the latch, putting his hand into an opening in the tail gate out popped a blue switch, so we both thought this was the latch switch, he also gave me the latch, when I got home, I fitted this switch to the latch, put a meter on the cables and nothing was hapening, I took the switch out and there is no way the latch mech. will ever hit this switch, I just mentioned it in passing to the guy that gave it to me, he said strange it all worked on my car.
Then I find the current problem, so I am now guessing the switch he gave me was off his lock barrel and not the latch as I thought, I cannot connect it up to the car as some twit has cut the wires that I think should connect it to the loom, hopefully the guy who gave me the switch has sent me what he thinks I am missing.
The number on the blue switch from thr cossie is, 91AG 14018 BD, the number on the switch taken out of my latch is, 91AG14018BD, but they are not the same, the press buttons are different lengths, I will send a photo.
all I am doing is to try to find out what switch should be on the lock barrel, but people tell me there should not be on on it. Dont know.
The guy at the Ford parts supplier has just told me there are two switches shown on his data sheet, two days to get to this, maybe there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Rich thought I had cracked it this afternoon, but it turns out I have been offered a switch that is the same as the one in your picture, I am sure this is not correct for my car,
1, It appears from your picture the lock button can be pressed in,  mine does not. the body of your lock seems a lot bigger in Dia. than mine.
2, how does this switch fix onto your lock, I feel sure its not correct for mine as there is a small cage with two slots in, that the same switch as the latch switch fits into, yours seems to be mounted on the top some how.

Hi Scorpioman'
I agree with 17, I have this, but the bit that is causing the trouble is 15, I cannot see how this can fit and be operated by the cam on the underside of the nylon disc.
The ford parts people came back again this afternoon with another switch, but on checking it seems the same as Richard posted, and this look wrong, no wonder some one cut the wire off, it has taken three days and really dont feel I am getting any where.
Tomorrow I will take the disc off again and try to photo where I think the switch should clip in, I have had a switch 17 clipped in fine, but as I have wires and the plug missing I cannot try it, I am hoping for a connection lead from the cossie to be in the post.
The plug on the switch in the photo the Ford guys sent is correct, but again its nothing like 15.
I have asked Richard how his switch is mounted onto his lock, and also his lock looks to have a push button mine does not push and also his lock looks a lot larger in dia. I maybe wrong, but it will be interesting to get his answer.
Once again thanks for your time and trouble.
