Broken Bonnet Catch -2
« on: Feb 5th, 2007, 10:43am »

I have a 98' 2.3 GhiaX. On Saturday while preparing to top up the screenwash, the plastic release for the bonnet safety catch came away in my hand. I have managed to wiggle the handle out (in case lost/ damaged whilst moving) but how do I : -
a) get the bonnet to release so I can see how to refix / replace the handle

b) remove the grille if the bolts are inside.

Help Please

Has the plastic handle come off completely or is it still hanging inside the bonnet?

If its still connected to the cable then just pull it forwards, if its come off then you should be able to get to the cable through the grill or through the opening of the bonnet or poke the safety catch open with a length of wood/knitting needle etc

Thanks Highlander

The handle has come off (and out) completely. I couldn't see  where the catch was located and have obviously just taken it for granted and not really looked at the fixing. If more access is required can the grille be moved from the outside.

Hi, no its bolted on from underneath, i've just had a look at mine, you can push it open with a long bit of something if the bonnet release catch is opened first

Thanks Highlander
Handle for safety catch now re-installed.
I am told that the skin will grow back and if I stick to long sleeve shirts the scars should not be noticeable.
