Have you cleaned the MAF As per THESE instructions
Otherwise it could be something as simple as sticking solenoid.
Might be worth changing the oil and filter in the gear box..... Whats the level like, along with the colour, and don't forget to check it when its HOT and engine running and level ground.

Mine  sometimes when cold will be very lumpy, probably only running on 2 cylinders, clunks into reverse and has no power to pull away. On the odd occasion it's happened it's always been cold weather & car not used over night and when I've used reverse within a few minutes of starting. I normally park facing out of the drive so it's not an issue.
It's only ever happened when I've wanted to turn the car round to do some work on it first thing during the winter months.
I believe there is an issue with the auto box that can cause it to happen.

Hi,  Smiley

Tompion is spot on,  I'm a semi - retired auto box man and had the same prob with my cossie,  a new pressure regulator solenoid cured it.

hi Dave
I knew you'd posted something about this, but I couldn't think of your username to find it. I suppose I should fix it as it's practically undriveable when it happens, but as I say it only ever happens if I don't just drive straight out the driveway on cold days. Probably happened 5 times in the last 2 years.

Dave2302. Could you, pelase bring more light on what you have changed? Solenoid, or a valve How to determine if solenoid is working
 I have a gearbox issue.
When it's cold - it works almost fine.
When hot (10 minutes of driving) - the gears are not changed until i release pedal (revs goes down, and i'm waiting for slight kick to know the gear changed).
In gear selector position 1 or 2 - the car works as it should. But not in 'D'.

And it's also judders in reverse on low revs, and not when it's cold, but when it's hot.

Here's more detailed description of problem with graphs
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action= display;num=1244151361;start=13#13

Thaks a lot!

PS: To add is that oil level is ok (checked on hot and working) and the smell and color are good
