Sounds like fuel shortage or air being drawn in?

Is there power to the glowplugs, ie is there a relay or timer controlling them that has failed ? GOZZ.

It's been 60 thousand kilometers since I have written anything in here! Anyone want to take a guess why!? Well I haven't had any problems with my Diesel that I could not have coped with! But now I do. Exactly the same problem as sivy28 has had. I wonder has anyone ever got on top of this? My Scorps is now dead, standing lonely on the yard. I would be really happy if I could crack this, it's my every day motor who has reliably and comfortably taken me all over Finland. Btw - I have a brand NEW (never run!) VM Diesel 2.8 CRDI from a Jeep Cherokee Sport 2005 in my garage! Have to wait about ten years before I can buy a "motorschaden" Jeep to get the rest of the part needed... 120kW Edit: I went outside, hoisted the beast rear up and go it running for about one minute and 30 sec. The longest today! Definately it helps. I have replaced the fuel pump relay (Green/Violet) with no help. Cleaned also the fuel lines, changed the filter, even bled air from the injectors as well. Starts, coucghs, runs smoothly for a while, then coughing and sudden death... Comments appreciated

Terve! Mistäs päin olet? Jos et hoksannut niin Suomestahan minäkin Same in English: Hi Where are you coming from? If you did not realize, I'm from Finland too! And then to "business": No I have not replaced the fuel pump, haven't got one Actually now that you mention it, is the fuel pump in the tank like it is in the petrol engines? I have a vague idea that it would be in the injection distributor.

I'm from area called Päijät-häme I've seen now 4 finns here (me counted in) 2.5 Tdi does not have any other fuel pumps in addition to injection pump (in drive gear). In my opinion: If fuel rails are 100% okay.. it must be something wrong with fuel (injection) pump.. Btw. Are you sure inertia switch button is pressed down? If you're not sure, check it ASAP! It's behind right side panels in trunk. May sound strange but it can pop up if tailgate is slammed to hardly down etc... That has happened twice to me with sedan scorpio. Result is that car runs couple mins and then suddenly cuts off and doesnt start anymore (at least when car is horizontally straight)

Yeah, one of the first things I checked in the "Inertia switch". I'm from Suonenjoki, also known in Cosworthrsclub and in Ford-Club as "pappa" Well I've been afraid of having to replace the bloody pump... Any idea how much it'll cost? Edit: (Not bad: approx. 1500 euros!) Edit: Left the car overnight standing, rear hoisted up and today it started after three tries, runs nice and smoothly. I just don't get this, if the pump was shot, I reckon it should not remain running. Edit II: Today the car has stood still the whole day, this time the nose up, just to try out what's happening. Gave it a try just half an hour ago and it started happily. My fuel level was quite low, approx. 6 litres, but it's been lower than that sometimes. So it still is a bit mystery!? But let's call it solved until next time.

Have you opened the tank to inspect the pump? Don't even think of buying a new pump assembly, pretty sure someone here has a spare if you ask. Even on ebay they change owners for like 50 euros for the whole assembly with sender. Oh, and I'm from the Turku region, quite a few finns around

Hi Ya, terve vaan Turku - you must know Keijo Auramaa then - A friend of mine. Well, I think in Diesel, the fuel pump is in the injection unit - built in, not in the tank like in the petrol beasts. I went to a local car dealer, told them the symptoms, after all the beast runs a ok, and swapped the car to a Ford Transit. I've been looking for a van for quite some time now. I will post the resolution if I get to know it, I asked the car dealer to tell me what it was when they have fixed it. They paid fairly well to swap to this van even though there was this issue with it. I think I won't be returning to this site very often any more, unless my Transit developes a problem only Scorpio Forum can resolve - not too far fetched, many tips & tricks from here have worked in other cars too. Like MAF cleaning cures BMW auto gear change problems etc...
