ABS light comes on AM goes out PM

ABS light comes on in the morning goes out in the afternoon which is annoying because it needs mot soon. No matter what I do it will not reset. At lunchtime its still on until I move the carthen it goes out. It then will reset normally for the rest of the day. Is this a heat thing? or damp?

There was someone on here once that said, turning your key to position 1 then 0 4 times got rid of the ABS light, but he wasn't sure if it was just a fluke or it really did the trick... be interesting to see if it works again for someone else.........

Sounds like a fault that goes after it dries out / heats up / shaken about for a bit etc. (?) E.g. bad connector might do it

| Worked for me, but I think it is dependent on which ABS you have, my Cossie has the older type.

Have a look at This page. The problem is often related to the two pins which connect the motor to the controller. The location is shown in the first picture ringed in red.Take the two pin connector off and apply 12v to it. If the motor runs then it is obviously ok. There is another post Herewhich details the problems caused by the dry or loose joints in the controller. There is a theory that because of the way the connection is made vibration causes the problem. As yours seem to 'come and go' this may well be the case.

| Assuming you mean the multiplug to the controller what type is it? If it bolts on it’s the earlier controller. If it uses a sliding clip then it’s the later type. For the later type you can use this pinout to check the resistance of the wheel sensors with the wiring to them. They should all be about the same resistance – if one is significantly higher then separate the sensor plug & test from there, (front - in the wheel arch, rear under the rear seat) if you get the correct resistance there clean the plug/test the wires. The fault with the controller pins that Simmo posted often begins with the light coming on after several miles with the mileage getting shorter over time until it fails completely. I think this is due to heat (the symptoms – not the fault).

Tompions pinouts give 1.085ohms thereabouts all pretty much the same. Turned ignition on, Light on! drove it 500 yards down the road this afternoon light went out. It now works fine. Have to wait until tomorrow morning and try again.

That’s what the resistance should be – although that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re OK but at least it indicates the connections are OK. Much the sort of thing I had prior to an MOT a few years back. Every time I released the multiplug it would be OK for a while so I was convinced it was a poor connection in the plug, but it turned out to be the early stages of the solder joints failing inside the ABS controller. I normally take the car for a good run prior to an MOT to get it good & hot for the emissions test. That time I only drove it long enough to get it up to temperature in the hope the ABS light would stay off & it passed. As long as the light goes off when the tester turns on the ignition you should be OK. The best thing you can do is get it scanned, if it has a C1095 code chances are it’s the controller.
