Oil cooler for R reg 24 valve Cossie

Had a brilliant evening on Sunday at a Queen tribute concert. On the way home,a cat ran in front of me and I braked, heard a thud and thought I heard the animal being dragged along under the car. I stopped, the cat walked off, albeit dragging a back leg and after investigation, I found it and it's owner and promised to check back in a day or so on it's condition. So far so good. After half a mile or so, my drive gave up and the car wouldn't move. I just managed to roll home and found a trail of fluid along the road. Next morning, a huge pool under the car, phoned garage, had it taken away and I'm told that the oil cooler is bust. So the girl thingy appeared to survive, my car didn't. An expensive evening!! How could this happen? Does anyone have such an item please?

George. Do you REALLY need the secondary cooler ? I reckon if you don,t use the car for towing,or cane the thing to death the radiator cooler would cope on it's own.You could certainly join the pipes together to get you mobile. GOZZ.

Hi Gozz, Thanks for your reply. First of all, my text seems to have changed since I typed it. I actually wrote "the cat appeared to survive". It has magically changed to "girl thingy". How weird.... Now I do tow occasionally, but are you saying the gearbox doesn't necessarily need this cooler? Does it just cool the automatic gearbox fluid? George.

Hi Craig, That's very kind of you. I think I heard from you before concerning an aerial. You said then that you were coming to WATCHET. Well that would be great. I can get the garage to by-pass the cooler for now and then fit the replacement later. Keep in touch. All the best, George.

| Below and in front of the radiator and condenser (if fitted) Its a small radiator type assembly and i've seen a few scorpios run fine with them removed and the pipes joined as Gozz says

How did the secondary cooler get damaged by running over a moggy ?....the engine under tray should've protected it....unless yours is missing

Hi george. Yep i have a cooler & will check the condition of it this weekend for you. What type of ariel do you have. ? ? Is it fixed position ( screws onto the roof mount ) or the thin ariel on the adjustable base ? . Im assuming because it's an 'R' reg it will be the fixed position version. I have both types so not a problem...Not too sure exactly where in the garage they are though

Jonnycab, I really don't know how it happened. The under tray is intact. Surely it can't be a coincidence that the fluid started pumping out immediately after the collision?

Thanks Craig. The aerial is the fixed type. I hope the cooler is ok. If so, you must let me know what you want for it, besides a conducted tour of Watchet, ha ha. How do you get the smileys to work? Nothing happens when I do them. George.

| JC. I reckon a pus-y could be propelled through the gap between the bumper and the undertray, but I don't think a dog would fit !! GOZZ.

Unless it's a shock related thing, dunno say it's on the verge of metal fatigue or something and the impact pushed it over the edge and cracked it. I'd be interested what you find on the original one (?)

Well folks, I will keep you posted on what I find when I collect the car. I have asked the garage to join the pipes together in the short term, but haven't seen it since the car was collected on Monday morning.

My prediction is that the cat hit the Nearside and cracked/broke one of the inlet or outlet pipes, they are very weak around the join

Yes Stuart, the aluminium tubes erode where they join the end tank and will eventually drop off unaided !!what happened to good old copper and brass ? too pricey perhaps. Regarding the dog entering the front of the car,I will try and abduct my mates wifes nasty little chihuahua,it lurks in a little box just inside the front door, when you go past it rips your trousers,I bet you could propel that through the gap and let it have a gob full of Scorpio GOZZ.
