7000 radio LCD

The LCD on my 7000 has now gone permanently blank & it doesn't look as though it's going to come back (been 5 days now)  Roll Eyes

Don't suppose anyone has an old/busted one sitting about that still has a working display ?

If so, then I don't want the whole stereo, just the complete front panel (keeps the postage down) so as I can remove the LCD & put it in mine  Smiley

JC,

for what they cost; it is probably more cost effective to get a 2nd hand unit from EBay and changing the whole thing. You ma get an LCD panel swap it all over, turn it on and it still not work!

Just my thoughts!

Your probably right Baz  Smiley...... I was just hoping that someone might have an old 7000 that lit up fine but maybe had a blown amp/code locked etc, that they could let me have for a few bob.

Second hand units on Ebay seem to go for about £45.00 inc postage & unless you get lucky, then there's no guaranty that the LCD won't go blank after a month or two. So was just trying to save a few pennies in these hard times  Wink

Jon, i have posted about this before.... if you carefully dismantle the front facia so you can get at the lcd window you will find it is just slotted into a groove, you can (and I have) just ease it out of the slot and you will notice contacts etched along the bottom.... if you carefully clean this and the socket with some alchohol (not whiskey or gin) and then refit the glass panel (which by the way is just 2 slithers of glass housing the liquid crystals) make sure it is aligned properly with the gold contacts, then reasemble the whole thing, it should work....
Take your time with this and don't be too heavy handed with it and you should have success.... it also aplies to the little ones on the a/c panel.

Even if it doesn't work (mine did) you haven't lost anything, so it is worth a try, plus you get the experience of micro exploration..... Wink

I tried pete's fix as well but to no avail   Sad I've settled for having a blank screen & I'm a dab hand at punching in the code when I disconnect the battery    Grin

Hi Jim  Smiley..... as you say, punching in the code is no problem, you just count  Wink.

I remember what radio stations are programmed into what number & I can still play CDs from the changer.

But the fact that the screen doesn't display the characters bothers me. I like things to work properly & when they don't I get slightly agitated  Angry

Being a Scorpio owner, then you can imagine that I get slightly agitated quite alot  Grin

JC,

I have a few spare 6000 CD radios which are like a CD version of the 7000. You can still put the CD changer in as well. Any good?

Yee-haw !!!..........I've managed to fix the LCD display  Cheesy

I removed the radio facia, then the main board, then the LCD housing & then pulled out the plastic ribbon connector from the LCD board & unclipped the LCD screen.

Next I put the screen in a freezer bag, then sealed it & put it in the deep freeze  Cool

4 hours later I removed the frost bitten culprit from the freezer, reassembled the radio & stuck it back in the car &..........VOILA.......it worked !!!!

The radio now has all the LCD characters back on the screen & is working fine  Cheesy.....hopefully it will be a long term fix  Smiley
