Auto cooler pies

Im having the autobox cooler pipes replaced next week due to leaking pipes. The garage is  reputable but have said that in order to replace the long pipe to the box, the gearbox has to be lowered. Is there anything that  they should be wary of?? Its just for my peace of mind. They have quoted me 2 hours for both pipes. Is this reasonableHuh

hi there

i might be way out on this, but i think i rermember someone just cutting the pipe and putting a ring spanner over it. not sure how it went back together agin. nothing on the site about lowering 'box, though.
btw. you should get the filter changed at the same time, if it hasn't been changed before.

I've just replaced mine and I definately did not drop or lower the gear box!!!! mind, my cars a 2.3....

The 'box pipe nuts are accessable with an open ended spanner turning approx 1 flat at a time until finger tight. I replaced all the pipes and they only cost about £76 or £80 if I recall.

The hardest bit was releasing the bracket on the bottom of the engine that guides 2 pipes. Fiddly that's all.

Cheers for the replies. I looked at the car when it was on the ramps  and it does look tricky. Its a 24v and the exhaust is in the way as well. Im just  looking forward to driving it again.. Grin Grin Grin

The oil cooler pipes are able to be repaired in situ had my 12v done last year takes about 1 hour  it is possible to remove the auto box dip stick holder so I understand makes getting at the pipes a little bit easier...Just one thing are you replacing all the pipes or just the two at front that go to and return from the oil cooler... as one of these goes to the side of the main radiator and back out at the top....
Cheers

Nice one Alan  Wink Wink By the way....... i went to th garage today and was told of a problem they had!!!   Ahhhhhhh. I began to panick. They had to remove the offside catalyst to facilitate access. However..... they broke a stud on the manifold which took them an hour to fix Angry Angry. So labour is at 3 hours allready and still the short pipe to fix. Oh well i have been told it will be ready on friday so only 2 more outings in the Clio Cry Cry

Never mind

Hope you get it all sorted soon. Another 2 days in the clio dosent seem to bad just as long here in doors dosent find you any more work to do. LOL Grin Grin
How is it taking the garage so long to do your car. I would have thought if you took it in in the morning you would have had it back in the afternoon or the following morning at the latest. Just curious.
Good luck anyway.
See you at the derby meet I hope.
