Dash LED

I know there's been countless mentions of these things in the past, but I'm starting a new thread...
Basically, earlier today a magazine got tossed up on top of the dash (by me bruvva). Thing is, it seemed to bust the LED on top of the dash. I say it broke, but its still there and working. Its just sunk down inside a bit (no sign of the black surround bit though).
What I want to know is, how do I get it back out? Does that screen vent trim just unclip?

After this happened, when driving down the road, I was presented with the TC and ABS warning lights. I pulled over, turned off, then turned back on again to find all was OK. Still OK now too.  So what happened there then? Any ideas?

SmileyHi Paul,
Having taken out the vent trim myself, I can only agree it's a bit of a B***h. There are some quite substantial clips ( Plastic ) holding it in. I found that GENTLY prising it up from one end you should be able to get it out, and see the Led Location.

Cheers guys, I'll try and retrieve it today. Didn't want to try prising the trim up if its not meant to. Will let you know if I fix it - or break it!  Grin

Any ideas on the warning lights?

Not me STN - mine is quite low and just has a hole - no cover.

At Scorpington it was interesting to see how many covers were missing - I didn't even know there was a cover!!

Cheers

Hi there ,

I did'nt attempt mine in the end because I had a megga problem trying to remove the dash trim etc.  My LED is still working but just seems very dim. There is a circular trim which the LED is fitted into on my dash board top .

Good luck .

OK, I had a crack at it today and this is what I found....
The screen vent trim eventually unclipped. Those clips are flippin' tight! Shocked Fortunately (in a way) the previous owner had broken the clip at either end somehow so they came undone quite easily. But the centre one was quite intact and therefore a b****r to get apart.
Anyway, once off, I could see the LED. I've heard others say its a long plastic tubey thing which goes down inside the dash... thats rubbish... its not. Its a small unit about an inch long and the same in diameter which has the LED in it. This unit is also tightly clipped into its own metal bracket. Mine hadn't actually been pushed down at all, and I doubt if anyone could actually push theirs in any further.
Basically, whats happened is, I've lost the circular cover with the red lens (presumably down the back of the dash somewhere or down the vent holes Roll Eyes  It sounds as if a few others are simply missing the same part.
I've investigated and it seems Ford still sell them (Finis 6909936) and its just £1.49 plus the VAT. NOTE: That number relates to Raven trim.
So all I have to do, I hope is get a new lens. What about the vent trim I hear you ask... well I kind of 'repaired' that Grin  If it doesn't stay repaired I'll have to get a new one of those too. They're just over 23quid though

i disturbed my LED cover about a month ago and it too fell into the air vent pipes. i found that if i directed the vents to the footwells and set the blower control to full, it eventually shot out! what luck! i didn't know ford could still supply the LED cover Shocked

Bezel... now there's a good word. Wish I'd thought of that earlier  Wink  But yes, that's the bit we're on about.
Will have to have the heat on my feet this morning then, and hope that the piece in question makes an appearance!
