Bought our 2nd Granada, went from J reg 2lt Ghia to a 1995 2.9 12v Auto Scorpio. Nightmare since we had it, replaced Fuse box, Battery, Exhaust plus cat, two new head gaskets and still it wont run properly. Currently found that the coolant warning light is constantly on despite header tank being full , on investigating it seems that when the heads were replaced the bolts were only hand tight!! What torque do I need to do? My battery drains when the car isnt run for 24hrs plus. Heater blower doesnt work nor the air con, although occasionally they do! UGGG Rev counter doesnt work now either and my speedo needle is stuck past max speed Paid 2.5k for the car in Feb 2003, later found out I needed a red key, spent nearly that again on repairs and it still isnt right.........help please Silly thing is, love the car, bodywork and interior in mint condition. Where do I go from here ?? Not a great mechanic, know how to change oil, filter and little jobs so no big words plz, simple terms only lol Adey

Hi Adey, Sounds as though you have had a bad time!! As for the head bolts:- If they are Hexagon head type proceed as follows Stage 1 Torque up in the correct order to 30-33 lbs ft Stage 2 Retorque in the same order to 41-52 lbs ft Stage 3 After 10 to 20 mins retorque to 70-85 lbs ft Stage 4 Start engine bring to working temp then retorque to 70-85 lbs ft. If they are the Torx head type you will have to buy a new set of bolts as they are designed to stretch. They bottom out if used again & the head will be loose. Torque as follows:- Stage 1 Torque in correct order to 26-30 lbs ft Stage 2 Torque to 52-55 lbs ft Stage 3 After 5 mins tighten all bolts in correct order a futher 90 degrees. Hope this helps. Tightening sequence as follows:- front of engine 5 1 3 7 right bank 8 bolts each side 6 4 2 8 the same for the other bank. Due to the way this has printed out the bolts are not opposite each other as they should be. Mick

Id take it back to the garage who changed the gaskets. Id also advise a head skim just to be on the safe side. I allways have that done. Cheers Nick
