Hi If you either single or double lock your car, assuming you still have the built in alarm system, and your alarm is set. when you open the boot with the remote, before you unlock the doors that is, should it or shouldnt it set off the alarm? On mine it doesnt . is this how its supposed to be or not? (must admit, it would be a pain if it did) Andy

Hmm, I have wondered about this before myself. OK, the rest of the car remains locked when you open the boot, and the alarm doesn't go off. But is the alarm still active on the rest of the car? When you close the boot when you've done what you're doing, should the alarm be reactivated? Paul

I think it must be as the dash light continues to flash whilst the boot is open. thing is, if your back seat is folded down, would you set it off on the ultrasonics or are they disabled while the boot is open. Yeah I know, I could always go try it! looks cold out there though

it seems to be that if you lock or double lock the car while the boot is open, the alarm will not set until the boot lid closes. the LED will begin to flash on the dash. But if you open the boot with the alarm set, it will disable the boot only, the rest of the car remains alarmed. I'm not sure how this would work on an estate will ultrasonics. on the mondeo's and later escorts if you open the boot it disarms the whole car until the boot is closed again. Hi, I'm a newbie here & slightly unsure about offering my opinion (but when has that stopped me before) Anyhow I'm guessing that if you open the boot with the key or remote when the car is locked & the alarm is set, this is acceptable to the alarm (because you used the key etc.) & it 'ignores' that for the duration. Whereas if you lever open the boot with a crowbar this is not acceptable so it goes off. Incidentally I've just found out my passenger door lock is a bit iffy, & doesn't quite unlock properly. That is, the key unlocks the door but seems not to go round far enough to operate central locking & disable the alarm. At least I now know what the alarm sounds like! For anyone else who hasn't heard it yet, it sounds the horn at 1 second intervals i.e. 'Beep, beep, beep...' You stop it by unlocking one of the car doors (one with a good lock that is!) NB if anything is open when you lock, the alarm doesn't set, as it says in the handbook. This includes the bonnet, so a dodgy bonnet switch (dirty, open circuit or unplugged) prevents the alarm setting. When the alarm is active the dash top 'control light' flashes continuously at 2 second intervals.
