Remote Control Doesn't

Help please, my remote control has suddenly stopped working. I have replaced the batteries and followed the reprogramming advice found on this site (I did the "on-off 3 times, heard the chime, pressed the unlock button, heard another chime) but remote still doesn't work - any more advice from someone who knows?

when you changed the battery's,did you thoroughly clean the remote as well ?.......

a couple of people have reported significant inprovement to the remote by rubbing an eraser on all the gold contacts, and also on the back of the rubber remote buttons, also when putting the batterys back in,try not to have finger contact with them, try using a lint free cloth (apparently the sweat/acid in you fingers can short out the battery's)

Thanks guys - I did clean the contacts and check the batteries were in the right way up before logging this query. Is there a fuse or something which protects the remote circuit? (The reason I ask is that I had to replace a blown 20 amp ignition fuse and it was since then that the remote hasn't worked)

Recently there was a post about bending a tag. I have had problems with mine and if you look at the unit where the batteries are fitted there is a small upright 'tag'. If you look at the printed circuit board there is a small gold 'patch' just outside the large battery connection patch. I think the tag is meant to touch the small patch and certainly after a bit of trial and error with a pair of tiny pliers ....b carefull.....the remote functioned better than it ever has. I can only assume that that completes a circuit. Unlesssomeone knows better....... Smiley

Yep the tag supplies the + (positive) connection from the battery to the circuit board.

Thanks Vulcan. As a novice with these technical things it's good to have the confirmation you have provided. Could this be a point that just gets overlooked with all the other advice about changing batteries, cleaning contacts and rubber etc?. I'd done all these things before with limited success. Now I think that any success was a fluke as that upright tag in the battery holder is clearly vital to complete the circuit. If that isn't connecting all else fails.Perhaps one day one of you clever guys with a digital camera could provide a photo of the remote showing the vital tag.
