Ok, sorry, I didn't have time to post the details this morning but here they are now:-

Had a quiet day today so I thought I'd have a preliminary look at the headlamp replacement.

It turns out that you can do it without removing the bumper. There are four clips holding the lens unit on to the main light unit and the first three are easily
visible/undoable from the top (having removed that side cover thingy with the three hex? screws).

Having looked at the new lens unit to ascertain the location and operation of the remaining clip, I lay underneath the bumper and found I could not
only see the remaining clip but that I could easily unclip it with a standard screwdriver (and I have big hands).

I had first experimented with the other clips to ensure that the fastening procedure would not require better access and found that I could easily slide the new unit into it's place and with a little pressure, the clips
engaged.

I hope this helps; please feel free to mail me directly if you want to chat it over at all.

Having read my previous post, perhaps I should add that, having unclipped the four clips, the lens unit can then be removed by pulling it forward. Refitting is obvious as there are many locating lugs to guide the unit into it's proper place

Yes, they are glued in place BUT when you order the glass as a spare part, it comes already glued to the front half of the whole lamp unit.

It was a relief to find out that no glueing was needed.

just as i was looking into doing this,i'm now confused Huh Huh Huh

so is this right.....
when you unclip the lens from the car,it comes off,no glue needs to be seperated (or does it),then as long as you have NEW lenses, this will just clip back on yeah ?...

also can anyone who has bought new lenses only verify this for me,the lenses come with both the silver and the tinted reflactor in the package ?

I only bought the pre-facelift lens unit so I can't speak for facelift lenses.

But I can confirm that no gluing was needed; just release 4 clips and pull off the lens unit and to fit, it's a "push in and wait for the clicks" job only, very simple.

Yes, it did come new from a FMD, BUT there were two options for the lens unit; pre and post face-lift.

The unit includes the bit that is tinted/darkened in the face-lift version with no obvious way of altering it without cutting off the glass (which I guess is what some pre-facelifters have done to get the dark look).

I agree, we need to hear from people who have done the transformation to get to the bottom of this.

I agree too. As Craig knows, I'm also interested in this subject.
But I'm not joining in with the confusion. I'm just sitting back and waiting for confirmation.  Wink

nice thanks for that.....

richard,i know what you mean, and yes you have made  very good job of yours, but what i was thinking is that if you have to take the lens off to get to the reflector, and cant be doing with all this painting stuff (i would be a little more confident ,however me and paint dont really get on + if you balls it up,you know what i mean !!!!),so the lens cost about £55.00,and comes with the reflector of your choice i assume,so for about £125.00 (ish),the job can be done.....
hmmmmmm, worth thinking about me thinks Wink
