Leaking oil from Chain tensioner

I have an oil leak, which seems to be coming from the chain tensioner, on the drivers side of the engine. It is actually dripping at a rate of about one drop, every ten seconds, while the engine is running. Looking at it from above, there doesn't seem to be enough space to get any tools into place to sort it out. Looking at it from below the engine (with the lower shield removed), it looks as if the job can be done if the alternator is removed first.
1) Has anybody had this problem before, and is able to give me some advice as to the best method of approaching it ?
2) Is there a rubber gasket, paper gasket, or O-ring behind the tensioner ?
3) Does anyone living close to South London have an engine, which is out of the car (for stripping/rebuilding etc.), which I could look at, just to familiarise myself which what I am dealing with ?

Any help would be much appreciated.
