De- Misting

These colder damper days I'm having to direct most of the available warm air to the windscreen or else it rapidly mists up ( CC can be on or off ). Even to the extent of shutting the fascia vents so all air goes upward. This does not improve even on long drives, as soon as some warm air is directed into the interior , the windscreen gets hazy. Should I leave the CC on Auto all the time ?

If you turn the control to DEMIST the the A/C if fitted is on by default.. even though the light on the a/c does NOT illuminate.. as in the previous thread its ALL in the handbook... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/handbook054.gif

check your carpets are not damp/wet as this will make the car mist up as soon as warm air flows around the car.......... HTH Nick

I have just cured my de-misting problem which I have had for the last couple of months. I changed the heater matrix. The old matrix had a small leak and the aluminium fins were badly corroded and were very damp. Hence the condensation on the cold glass. There was no antifreeze in the foot wells or on the carpets. So I was lucky in that respect. The unlucky part is removing and replacing the matrix. Get your band aids out for your knuckles. Regards Mike in Luton

Wow! I tip my hat to you Fordy . I just took a look at the " how to replace heater matrix" pages on the website. I don't think I've seen a trickier job or a job more likelier to induce high blood pressure than that one. I hope he got it all back together again!

He did worn me it could get worse with time. He says it can be cured with large injections of CASH££££. And now both my Cats are broken. Its all to much. I must go and lay down.. Mike in Luton

I did the same with my drain pipes yesterday too and there seems to be a huge improvement in that I haven't had to put on the A/C once yet. Well actually I had it on for about 5 mins when myself and 2 friends got into the car after a gym session but that is to be expected. The drain on the passenger side was completely blocked but the dirt in it actually appeared to be quite dry, not all slimey like in the pics in the link. The driver's side was also quite dirty although just enough to let water out.

yep its a good and easy maintenance item to do oce a year and it does indeed seem to be the passengers side one that clogs up the most, its probably the lowest point of the evap plenum so gets the most water throgh it. Pete c author cc pages

I checked the drain valves , dusty but clear of gunge. I'm just getting into the habit of keeping the CC control to auto and letting it do it's job , though the blast of air from the vents is fomidable ( must remember to turn it off when my toupee wearing Dad-in-Law gets in !!).

Yeah, thanks for those excellent CC pages Pete - really made the job much easier and much appreciated by myself (and I'm sure everyone else on the board)

hi all, please check out your pollen filters....i have had this problem on many cars and found that the pollen filters gather so much muck that eventually no air passes through them, hence the steaming up problem...cheap fix and low blood pressure
