Can anyone help with this please.
My 1996 2.0 Estate is going in on Monday to a small garage know to me for the following,
MOT.
Renew both front Flex. Brake Hose. (there is just a small nick on the rubber at one end).
I going to ask them to renew the brake fluid as the car now done 138,000 miles as no know history on this point.
Is it just a case of put a peice on tube on a bleed nipple and then open it and pump it out by pressing the brake pedal.
Thanks to anyone who knows.

mines going in 1st Mar for new fluid as well. Spoke to the Guys doing it (V. reliable). They're going to put a vacuum on the bleeds and draw it out until clean fluid is seen coming through (topped up from the reservoir).
I asked about pumping, as you described, and they said it could cause probs with ABS systems.

thanks to Pegasus, That's great for that inflo. I did think that there was more to it than just pumping it out. with the brake pedal.
I going to do a copy of that and give it to the service manager. I will tell him any doubts about you can do it correctly, then leave it.

Pumping has also been known to damage brake master cylinder seals - you are pushing them past 'normal' usage. For other car (Probe), if using this method only pumping pedal halfway is recommended, especially as master cylinders just about unobtainable.
Vacuum method far better if you can get it done.

As I renewed all my brake pads recently , I also bled each wheel ( except one , some twit had chewed up the bleed screw on one caliper ) in turn. Using a tube with a non-return valve ( One Man Bleed Kit ) I pumped the pedal till the fluid coming out was was clean and clear .
No probs with ABS, it's working perfectly.

years and years ago i had a one man bleed kit that consisted of a lid the same as your car fluid container lid and out the centre was a hose that you put on your tyre vavle, (after lowering the pressure to about 15 pounds or a bit less).
All you had to do then was go round each wheel, starting at that furthest from the brake master cylinder. and undo each bleed nipple until no more bubbles came out the bleed tube.
jusy so easy.

Also, it's a good sign if the fluid that is being pumped out of the calipers to be discarded , is resonably uncontaminated. If the fluid is dark and brown it's probably full of rust particles from disintegrating internal caliper components, a bad and sure sign of impending trouble.
