Batteries and resetting.

This is a topic which crops up quite regularly and my now defunct Scorp was resetting every morning until I transplanted the 5 year old battery from my old granny. Th original was a Lucas and looked brand new so I hung on to it.

It has now untouched been on a shelf for over a year, that is until I needed a jump start for another motor. Guess what! It did the job no problem & shows 13 or so volts and that's before recharging so there could not have been much wrong with it. The only thing that I could see was that it only had a peak start current of 400A.

Form your own conclusions bit I just thought it might be useful if someone has a borderline case.

Ron,

Could this have been a poor earth or connection first time round?

I did wonder about that but it looked like a new battery, the connections were clean and tight and I did a double swap to make sure.

Just one thing, the start current rating was 320 not 400 and that is well below the recommended level.  It can't have been cold starts either because it would also reset intermittently when it was warm. I haven't had a repeat since I changed the battery and that was over a year ago. Amazingly, the replacement only cost me £25 several years before that.

I can only assume that the Scorp is sensitive to underrated batteries and that a chaep big one is a better option than an expensive small one.

All sorted ages ago. The battery cover and battery both came from my old granny a year ago. it just seems crazy that the battery I took off is still fine after over a year on the shelf but wouldn't start the scorp without resettingHuh
