Radio anti theft panel

Now that the weather is warming up a bit, I've noticed that the radio/CD (7000 series) goes off whenever the front anti theft panel gets a bit of sun on it. I assume its a fault with the set rather than specific to Scorpios.

If I press the panel in I can get it to come back on again, and in the winter/cooler weather the problem doesn't happen at all.

Anyone else come across this? Or any advice on how to overcome it much appreciated.

I had a similar problem, also with a 7000 Series, except mine was triggered by motion, especially speed bumps. I`m afraid I can`t help with a solution as I had mine changed under warranty but you are not alone in having the problem.

My 7000 system does the same in hot weather but as soon as I put the AC on and the cab cools down, the 7000 jumps in to life again. I feel that it is a common problem because my system was replaced under warrenty from 4rds only 18 months ago!

Mine is fine whatever the temp in or out of the car. I can only say though that mine seems as if it hasn't ever been removed as it clicks in and out with a very positive click and doesn't seem to have any play at all in the slot.

Maybe there would be a way to "wedge" it in with a small piece of mylar strip or some such that would be virtually invisible if clipped off level with the edge?

I used to drive Transit vans for a living and most of them ended up having the panels wedged in with a bit of paper to solve loose panel problems.

there was a posting about this very subject pre crash, and if i recall somebody mentioned blue tack... Huh

but it is a common fault, and the "wedge a bit of paper in" seems to work ok.. Smiley

Welcome to the club, Chad! Smiley
Mine has done this ever since I bought the car. I noticed that removing the panel instead of leaving it in place (so that it doesn't get too hot while the car is parked) helps. But even so, the problem still occurs from time to time.

By gum! was I shouted down for telling people to slightly bend out the contacts very carefully,VERY CAREFULLY,and it would work again!
i got a full and utter lecture that it was LIGHT that caused this phenomenon, when low and behold,it is heat ,bending the insert panel away from the contacts.
I hope you,and you know who, are reading this! Grin Grin Grin
Because of the plastic on the outside and the metal on the inside, the facia panel acts like a bimetalic strip and moves microscopically away from the contacts in hot weather!..said contacts move in and away from the facia panel because of prolonged use!
    Hope this helps
(and i did say CAREFULLY!) Grin
