Help needed RE: Keys

I know this subject has probably been covered hundreds of times but as I'm new to this site I haven't figured out the correct search method as yet.

My question is.......

I have just bought a 2.9 24v Ultima and am due to collect the car on Tuesday. When I asked the dealer about the key situation he said he wasn't sure what keys were included. The key I had available for the test drive was just the standard Ford fob with a button in the middle of the fob for a light (which didn't work!) It must have included the PATS thingy and it had a red square on the shoulder of the black plastic fob part. There was also a seperate 3 button remote control on the key ring too.

Now I know in the past I bought a Mondeo with only 1 key and it cost me £100 for a PATS key to be programmed and cut (And the only place that could do that was a Ford garage!!!)-Am I to expect the same kind of bill for the Scorpio should it turn out to only have the 1 key and 1 remote controlHuh

What does the "red" square mean-I always thought it was the red "master" key, but reading previous threads I have found on here the red master key should have a totally red coloured fob and not just a small red squareHuh?

Am I right?

Any info greatly received  Cheesy

Thanks guys,

Wayne

hi there

have a read of http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pats.htm

you want to have the 'all red' master key. a local locksmith should be able to sort you out cheaper than ford.

Thanks guys,

Whats the difference between the "all red" master key and any other key that is programmed to the car? Does the master key have a hard memory that cannot be re-programmed, where as the black ones can?

After reading the link scorpio man left:
In the event that the red master key is lost, then a new one can be ordered using the vehicle key number. Be prepared to prove that you are the registered keeper of the vehicle because otherwise the main dealer should refuse.
This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS, This master has to be programmed by a Main Dealer using WDS,
which clears the PATS module memory and reassigns the new master. Once that is done, the old slave keys need to be reprogrammed as above.

Would an auto-locksmith have access to a WDS machine and be able to make up a new master for me?

I know it could be expensive especially if I have to go to a FMD, but the £100 charged for a single key won't actually look so bad if I were to lose my only key and end up having to cough up £hundreds for someone to actually get back into the car and then reprogramme everything etc etc

I just hate having to spend that kind of money for such a small thing Angry

Cheers  Smiley

In answer to your question the Auto Locksmiths DO have access to equipment that does the same thing as the WDS and are therefore able to reprogramme the new keys and a new red master.

The last time I enquired local to me it was £60 incl the keys and they do it at your home.
