Hi Solar .. the traction light is OFF on the dash by default meaning that the TC is working ... if you switch it so the light is ON then you have turned the traction off ... daft eh ?? haha ... the most common cause of ABS lights etc ...being on.. is dirty connections ..after that a faulty sensor < depending when the light shows > .. if both lights come on < and the TC isn't switched off > then it may be a puncture or low tyre pressure ..worth checking them at least ..  regards ....... right stn,key in, turn on ,abs and tc lights come on,start engine, both lights are still on, i take it that i have a problem with abs and tc,btw the alternator has packed up[not charging] am going to get it fixed this week [£85+vat] but that shouldnt cause the problems should it.
should i have obd test done to find faults.

hi there

obd-2 won't read abs fault codes. as stn says, most times it's a sensor fault/ dirty connector. also check wheel bearings as this can cause errors. remember scorpio wheel bearings DON'T make any noises when failing.

hi scorpio-man,thanks for reply will check connections ect.
just a note about bearings not making noises when failing,i also have 2.0 16v ghia and have had both front bearings replaced, reason whining and vibs and the cars done140k.no mention of them being replaced before in history so i take it that they are originals

If the ABS light is ON all the time from the first moment when i turn the key, i don,t think it's a dirty sensor, because the working principle is to produce electric signals when a magnet excites it's coil (wheel spins). So i think it's wireing. Couldn't found where's the problem and there's about 3 months without ABS for me.

knowing this, from what i know TC uses the same sensors with ABS, so maybe there's the same problem like mine (i don't have TC)

The sensor ring will be rusted and worth giving it a good clean out with a hose while youre at it was all the debris out and make sure nothing metalic stuck to it like small screws etc
