Buying a Scorpio

Hi All
I`m new here so go easy on me.
I do like my Fords. i have a 2.8 injection Janspeed turbo Capri at the mo, hence my name. and a Renault laguna as our family car.
the laguna has to go, for one its not a Ford, and two its a laguna, no seriously it couldn`t pull the skin off cold custard.
I have a fairly decent sized caravan, i used to own a 4.6 hse Rangerover, but financial and another baby on the way i had to sell the rangy.
The Capri is not a family car, so i bought a laguna. Doh!
So i`m interested in a 2.5TD estate Scorpio.
is it correct that the auto is not recommended for towing? and why? Huh
It has to be an estate and diesel, as i do a lot of miles and need the economy. and the room.
The auto would be best as i had a bad motorbike accident a few years back and my legs are not what they used to be. but if they are no good for towing then the manual will do.
Thanks.

jay...
in all honesty turbo diesel auto's are very, very light on the ground, manuals are a little more plentyfull, but an auto diesel i think you may struggle there....

have you considered the 2.3 ?

Hi Craig.
Thanks for the reply.
I was hoping for an auto but if the manual is the only way then i will have to go for that. the laguna is a manual any way. just me being lazy.
just wondering why Ford dont recommend towing with the auto?
I have seen diesel Ghia estate`s, in auto trader for about £1200, 1997/98 year.

I think the reason for not recommending towing with the auto diesel is that additional cooling for the auto box is or may be required.
I will try and check and post back if I find it.

Found it TSB 66/1994 recommends the fitting of an additional oil cooler if towing with the automatics to prevent overheating.  But I am quite sure others that tow with the scorpio will advise accordingly.
