having my car repaired tomorrow, new discs and pads on the front, also new ball joints/wishbones. facing a bill of £380 ish. all in. just wondered if this sounds about right to anyone else whos had these kind of jobs done before. the cars done 80,000 miles now , had new wheel bearings this time last year and now ball joints, is this average wear and tear? always been well looked after and serviced. thanks for any feedback andy

hi there doesn't seem too bad. £200 of that is for the wishbones alone. say £30 for pads. another £50 odd for the discs. then there's VAT and fitting, so not too bad. hth

thanks for the reply, thought it was pretty good, and seems like a straight forward, honest mechanic. took my problems to the local f.m.d. and the man behind the counter pulled a face like he`d just smelled something nasty, looked in his book, and scribbled a figure on a torn off piece of paper.(obviously not attended the customer services charm school yet) the figure being a good £150 more than my local mechanic.

Judging by how fiddly and potentionally time consuming it is to replace the wishbones alone, I would say extremely good value. Gives us a report once all is repaired, then gives us the phone number of the garage!

all done now, showed me the old wishbones and said they retail at £175 ish.!.!. used the garage a few times now and he seems like a decent guy, no b.s. and very knowledgable. garage is in leicester, called d.s. autos, 0116 2511881. its a no frills kind of place, no coffee machines and plush lounge to wait in but who cares.
