Fuel Filter ?
« on: Aug 19th, 2005, 4:41pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Grin  The old girl passed her MOT to-day with nothing needing done ( always a good idea to book it in on a Friday as the tester is more likely to be  in a good mood  looking forward to the week-end ). Although not part of the MOT  the tester mentioned the Fuel Filter was very rusty, I nodded sagely as if I knew what he was talking about and thanked him.
Where's  is the flippin'  thing, and is it easy  and cheap to change?

Yep it's under the car at the back to the left of the fuel tank (looking from behind!)

Simple to do but only if the nut and bolt have not rusted together like mine!

Be prepared for some fuel spillage as well

Can't remember how much!

hi mr floppy just changed my filter as i thought it may have been by misfire/slugish  performance
1/2 socket 12inch extention and ratchet one bolt holds it on, take the protective caps off of new one, remove inlet outlet pipes and quickly place the caps from new one over them to prevent the petrol going all over you
then remove.wire brush the end of the thread on the clamping bolt 8 mm socket i think and use a bit of penetrant or a drop from the end of your dipstick to lube it up ,then unclamp, slide new filter inplace taking note arrow points to front of vehicle then replace all put the caps back onto the new one when putting it back inplace to prevent ingrease of dirt ,pinch pipe end and push on firmly pull back theyll lock, turn ingition on check for leaks then start job done in less than 10 mins any probs gimme a shout you can fit underneath without a ramp aslong as youve laid off of the pies
kind regards joe ps cost £5.99

Agree

Done it a few times myself, really easy, just be quick getting the caps on the end when you remove the pipes or you get petrol running straight down your arm!!!! Grin Grin

ill read thru what i put in next time, but hey gave us a giggle
right professional approach as i tell my lads
wire brush the thread showing on filter clamp
spray with penetrant oil (fosbro etc)
remove screw you may need to hold squared nut as the tab can splay i suggest 3/8ths socket end will fit if not bodge with mole grips
bodge meaning expediant repair
fit new screw or grease old so as to facilitate an easier replacemnet for next 6000 miles or so
place end caps from new filter back on to limit ingress of dirt
lightly grease with copper slip the securing bolt for the filter clamp
remove caps one at a time as you reconnect inlet and outlet pipes
fuel loss is approx 0.5lts
hope to b e of help
and i hope using the oil from your dipstick didnt leave any nasty rashes
kind regards

Managed to get it done this afto,  I think Joe_ Murphy's  idea of a 10 min. job  is a bit  of  a under estimate, more like 45mins, a skinned and burned arm  ( best to wait for the exhaust to cool down  Shocked)  and  grit , muck in my  lugs and  barnet and  the faint odour of  of Eau De  Unleaded  permeates my  clothes.

Apart from that a job well done Grin
