hi all. For anybody thinking are wanting to know if the 2ltr 16v is up to towing here is my experience using a N reg with 96k on the clock. When bought with 84k in Feb this year after reading the posts on this great site I did the following... Cleaned MAF, checked auto fluid and was reddy brown no burnt smell though,,,had a partly oil change when the auto sump was dropped and filter changed,, Bought a second oil cooler off ebay and made some brackets and hung it to the rear and below the original. Oil and filter change at National Tyres £25,00 Then started towing.. Accrington to Scarborough over Blubberhouses and returned no problems, but did not check fuel used..but suited with the cars capabilities with a ton+caravan. Went to Eastborne again did not check fuel down, but on the return used just 16 gallons on 320 miles...great Just got back from Looe, my son took the caravan down with his car, I went down solo the week after and on 340 miles I had just over 1/4 tank left and I did around 80 most of the motorway miles. On the return with the van on and avery hilly begining before reaching the M5 it did 320 miles to the tank again just had to add extra to do the last few miles...I think it's a great tower and really frugal solo on the motorway..around town I get 21 and I mean just around town no bypass or motorway use... Just to add, I have used about 40 shots of injector cleaner over the months I have had it.....Fingers crossed she carries on TOUCH WOOD Hope this may help anyone who is thinking of using a 2ltr 16v for towing or solo work... Cheers john

John, The 2.0 16valve is quite a happy mile muncher, however on my previous Mk3 I had to have a recon box every 140k or so, but your extra cooler is an interesting mod, I wonder if you have any piccies, if so you ought to let Snoopy or EricR know (they will probably see your post anyway). Drive computer on mine is giving a mid 400miles figure tank to tank. Mostly motorway. Geoff

I have around 430 motorway miles shown on the computer and pretty certain I would get very near to it, it's just that I normally do not do great distances solo too prove it, what I know is that it does 31 mixed local mixed around 60 miles motorway (weekend) and the rest around town......this has been the case on many occasions as I usually go to the coast at weekend and use it for work during the week...very happy chappie.. Cheers John
