The husband has never had an automatic before and wants to know when you would use the wee overdrive button on the gear lever ..

you should always use the overdrive (no light on the dash),if you do turn it off (light on on dash),all this will do is stop the car to changing up to the final gear...... have very rarely switched mine off,did once to check the light works, basically i just kick it down to go up a gear.. HTH craig

overdrive off will basically just stop the car from going into the top gear...... the S button (sport mode) on the gearbox, when this is selected this "holds" the car in a lower gear for a little longer before changing up,tends to give the car a more "sporty" feel, there is a difference there, but once again, dont really use mine that much, give it a go,press the S button and just floor th car, you'll see what i mean....

Being as yours is a Cosworth, you will definitely notice the difference! Try what Craig has suggested (press the "S" and the wee green button) and then floor it. That car should move you better than it ever has before and the sound will be fantastic! For normal use, around town and the like, I find it better sometimes to turn the O/D off to stop it changing up into top whilst in traffic. Play with it - experiment - enjoy!

I use mine little green button to hold off overdrive for slowing the car, on a long steep downward hill, saves the breaks a bit.

You can also select "2" on the gear change if it is a very steep hill, this will give you a lot more engine breaking for slower speed. I havent tried "1" yet, it might place the engine in the seat next to mine
