Hello and i hope you will burn some rubber today!.Anyway, when my car,a 2,9 12v is working on to less petrol and the co meter is reading 0,0 and the sparkplugs are as white after 400 swedish miles as new ones i wonder how i do if i want the car to get some more petrol.Probably the only way is by the black box and if thats the case i have to leave it to a Ford working place.Any idea!?.Have a nice day.

Pier,
Is your car working well? Does it start well, and does it run okay at part-throttle? If it does and you don't hear it 'pinking' (pre-detonation) under load it's probably okay.
Here in the UK we never want to use more petrol because it's so expensive.  Shocked

If you think the engine is running lean (not enough petrol) then replace the fuel filter (underneath the car next to the petrol tank - should be done every 60K miles). Use a good dose of Injector Cleaner in the fuel and if this doesn't improve it replace the Fuel Rail Pressure Regulator with a new one - if this is getting lazy or leaking then not enough petrol will be delivered.

Yes, the fuel map is programmed into the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), in your case the older EECIV.  It is possible to re-chip it and program it with a new map, but this is quite expensive, you would need a fully-equipped specialist for this.

Some high performance engine builders use rising rate fuel rail pressure regulators to deliver more fuel during hard acceleration, but if these are used you should improve the inlet and exhaust flow first.

Thanks again for the help. The car now works much better and i hope it will continuing working as this when the changing of the  fuel pressure regulator did it more happy!.However i realy cant understand the Ford workingshop in Sweden when they told me that it was realy unusual to change these when i read about many people on this web page who have similar problems.Maybe they are afraid of not getting the work done ha ha ... Thanks again!. Grin
