I'm very puzzled by valuations. My '94 Cossie looks like it came out of the factory last week - not even bumper scratches or stonechips to talk about , now at 74K. I have asked around one or two sales forecourts and they talk about a retail price of £2000 to £2300.
Warranty Direct are adamant that its value is £1200 and they are being generous at that.
How can I make sense of that?

True enough. But say I have a breakdown which is covered by warranty. The policy states the total paid out during the term cannot exced the value of the vehicle. The insurer's valuation is rather important here!

Hello there

Looks like you've answered your own question.

No surprise given number of getouts such policies usually have in addition to low monetary limits.

I once read the 2pt. font small print on a warranty a couple of years ago and despite the big print making sweeping exaggerations that no one would want to be without the small print made the chance of a claim been "honored" virtually zero. Some warranty!!

Warranty Direct did in fact replace the gearbox/torque converter but when it came to another claim they only offered £250 toward it because of valuation. That's why I had it valued at some garages.

I'm always very sceptical at  the words sellers use willy nilly  like  "Immaculate"  "  mechanically sound "   and   " 120K miles,    but  runs like a dream"   ( yeah, right!).

When you test drive this  "  Fully equipped , all the gizmos "  you discover that none of the Gizmo's work, it pulls to the left like   it's only got three  wheels and  every  gear change is accompanied  by a  nasty  crunching noise and a jolt that the seller  claims  he will fix when his mate  gets  the bits.

There are still some good Scorps out there,  but,  because  even 10 year old examples are  still  rust  free and the interiors  look  good,   the  rogues  ones   that  should have been   scrapped     are  out  there  being passed off as  "Immaculate "  so beware.
