how 2 get a switched live

Hi all,
I have added an extra Cig lighter socket ot my catr behind the glove box as this is not something io need to unplug, it is wired to the battery and an earth. As such it is permantley live now i want to plug something else into this socket which i dont want to leave on so how can i make it a switched live?

I read another post somewhere which stated the easiest place to pick up a switched live feed is the yellow wire off the ignition. Apparently the access is quite easy and involves removing the coin box area of the dash.
