Hi,

My 2.3 manual's gearstick is a bit on the sloppy side, any sensible ways to tighten it up a bit ?

Dave

He's got a manual.

I must admit gear selection is not as slick on Scorp manual as some other Fords that I have driven, anybody got any ideas why that might be? (Apart from old age on my part  Grin )

Mine seems to be also like that, It has a long travel from right to left. Don't mind it so much, the thing is that it should change nice, mine sometimes when it's verry cold outside kind of refuses to enter in 1-st and/ second for a few miles. I think it defenetly needs and oil change

Cheers Dave Happy New Year  Grin

I think we may have an interesting theme here, there is nothing really mentioned about ways of improving the shift at the lever end in terms of throw or general baulking, anybody got any bright ideas other than swapping for an auto or grafting in a new generation sixspeed box?  Huh

Six speed sounds nice but way too expensive for me  Tongue

On topic:

Maybe all that play in the gear lever is because of worn links. If i take of my wood efect cover and look under it, and under the rubber protections, there's a lot of mess, losen rings, losen bits of ....and a lot of stuff. That's how i'v got the car, don't realy know what should be there.  Huh It will worth a look to see what's there in your case.

The following link takes you to a site dedicated to the RS and Cosworth Escorts which apparently also use the MT75 box, as you will see they have a view on the box and why it is clunky

Yes but if your box is strange now think what it will be like if the car has more power, that and you will have to keep stopping to top up the water Grin
