Thermostat + Oil

Been shopping around for thermostat for 24v.
FPUK want £36.19
Local Motorfactors reckon they can get one for £6.50
They insist its the right one for the car.

Just a thought, FPUK say there is no gasket reqd for the Stat on the 24v.  Is this correct?

Also been looking around to get Oil change to save me the mess.

National Autocare give 3 choices of oil.
Which of the following do u recomend:

QXR @ £30 (whatever that is)
Hypergrade @ £25
Visco 7000 0w-40 @£35

Are you sure they have this right? Have a read of this http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/replacestat.htm. Previous posts have suggested that these items are not readily available!.  This post has a good photo of the item.http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action= display;num=1130865623;start=18#18. As for the oil the specification is herehttp://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/engdata24v.htm.

Don't think a gasket is required for the thermostat mate, think it just sits in a little housing.

Re the oil, its up to you, but I use 10/30 semi synthetic in my 24v. I would prefer to use fully synthetic but i don't know what it has run on in the past and don't want to cause any problems by switching now.

Fully synthetic is recommended for the 24v's really.

24v thermostat is a T-piece design which connects three rubber hoses and does not need a gasket, it is not like a conventional stat.

FPUK is the right one, I paid £45 from FMD for one recently.

Your Motor factor one is for the Granada or the 12v i'll bet

Heres a pic I stole from Dave  Wink (two stats)

Thanks guys

saved me alot of hassle.

My wife rang The Motorfactors 4 times to check + doublecheck and they insisted it was the right part.  I have it here in front of me now and its a conventional wax-element type.

pleased + not pleased all at the same time!  Undecided
