Contemplated idea myself recently.
Feedback I received was mixed to say the least from "brilliant" to "wasted money" with one or 2 neutrals who didn't think value for money.
Appears that MAF needed cleaning more frequent due to oil contamination.
So I decided to stick with motocraft.

Hi

Ive just taken mine off due to the cold weather, it was great over the summer sucking in more cooler air but not so good when the temperature drops outside, if you want to go a little faster and louder but watch your fuel gauge chase your speedo across the dash is it for you? As we all know getting hot under the collar is no new thing to scorpio's so in my case it did help me get through a hot summer. spent most of June and July last year running around Gleneagles in good old Scotland and when your not paying the fuel bill it was fantastic. to answer the other question there is a hole in the K N filter that takes a 90' piece of pipe that the breather connects to,
Its really up to how you drive and what you want to get out of you scorpio.

Oil Breather goes Like this... its one little k&n filter...  Wink

When u floore the pedal the engine makes more sound...!!!  Cheesy WAF, WRoooOOOMMM

I dont see any reason for taking it of due to the wether.? -degrees..?

No prob here at lest, engine gets air below zero, cold air is supose to be good.......  ROFL

Downsides.? Cleaning it is a small job in its one, but over the years it gets cheaper with k&n, (as long as it doesnt break, but then again, lifetime guarantie..)

If u are hard on the pedal ull use a bit more fule, but then again, if your doing smart long distance driving, it work the other way again, use less.....

hmm, you need to ripp out some things from the enginebay as u see in the pic., and a heatsheeld is smart...

(as long as you are thinking about a kone filter and not a flatt replacement..)

K&N, good no problems, dont buy a kit, modify (cut) the air box to keep the bit where the air flow meter bolts & the trumpet, get the right size universal to go over the trumpet & secure with hose clip supplied, oil breather can be fitted into the resonator chaimber with out problems.

The K+N Filter that was on my cosworth is different to the 20L shown in the picture - i did buy mine last year though? for my cossy more air means more fuel and the mph did suffer slow or fast and even over long journeys but this sounds like it is different for lower cc engines, has any one else put one on a cossy would like to know how they got on over a cold spell, too much cold air in the mornings and it was like having the choke stuck open all the way to work. it was fun though!

I've had one for about 3 years, and to be totally honest, it didn't add any power, nor did it add anything real to the economy either. Kinda nice to be able to wash it out and re-use, but don't expect any power gains with a stock airbox.

a K&N filter allows a slight increase in air flow (a fair bit more with air box mods), this coupled with re mapping the fueling to match will give some power gains, even more with less restrictive exhaust. a K&N is a better quality element in that the filtering is better, however, unless you're planning on keeping the car a few years which would mean changing the standard filter twice a year its probably not worth the extra outlay, the K&N is not disposable, you just clean it and re oil it then put it back in.

I had terrible MAF problems cos of these..kept getting very dirty and bringing up DTC s all over the place ..I nearly ended up injecting Valium due to the stress..the OD light came on and everything. So its up to you some members like them and have had no probs some dont. I would stay away from the ultra cheap universals u see on ebay if I were you.... keep the original housing if you do K&N up..
