Advice needed on DVD systems for my Scorp
« on: Feb 8th, 2006, 9:01am »

Hi All

I am just considering fitting a DVD system to my Scorp, and would like some advice on which type of system to go for.

I am thinking leather headrest and sunvisor screens as they can be hidden easy, but I have no idea about which style of player to go for. Are there any type that will work with the existing ford 7000, or will i have to replace it?

Any advice and photos would be much appreciated

Thanks Barrie

barrie..
well you know the screens i have, why not keep the existing stereo, and just opt for a boot mounted dvd player, most come with an infra red eye,so you can control the unit within the car, then either use headphones,or a FM modulator to have the sound coming through the existing stereo (on mine i have the option of both, infra red headphones that pick up the sound through an infra red sender, sender and headphones £50.00 ish,FM modulator £50.00 ish,try to go for a wired modulator though, the cordless one do tend to pick up some interference)

or a smal dvd in the glovebox?  saves pulling over to change the disc.  Expecially if ones on a particularly long haul like accross europe  Grin

My DVD player is only 6" x 6" x 2"

Bought my stuff off Ebay for £50.  Am sure you have seen it on my posts.
Headrest of Baz too.

Craig

Its a funny thing but I actually like the sound that my 7000 produces, and think it would be quite hard to get much better without spending a fortune. Don't know if my speakers are the standard ones, but they do look standard.

Do I have to use an FM modulator to get the sound through the speakers or can it be linked into the set somehow?

Andy I do like the sound of a small DVD. Did you buy it new off Ebay if so can you give me his user name so I can see if there are  any more available

Thanks Barrie

barrie..
tend to agree,i now have a 900VNR in place of the original head unit, but i agree,i personally think the sound is spot on.......
IMHO fm modulator would be the best way to go,very simple to fit,and does the job a treat, dont go for a cordless one, they do tend to pick up a lot of interference, and try to get the best you can for your money,i dd try a few £20.00 (ish) ones, and was not overly impressed,in the end i plumped for a £80.00 JVC one,bit more expensive, but well worth the extra expense, quality modulator, and top notch sound as well..

Barrie the guys Ebay ID is richarde7927 and the ebay item number was 5858779716 but he was a private seller and not a business.

The system is a Veba make.  I know, i never heard of them either but it looks + sound good.  The player has anti shock also and i could even shake the player in my hand and the dvds still play without any stuttering.

As Craig says i bought a JVC FM modulator also off ebay for £23.  Item number 5860334376

Is the sound much better on th 9000 VNR than the 7000, how do you find it on the sat side. I have a sat nav but the type you put on the windscreen, do you think that the 9000 would be better

Thanks Andy I will take a look on ebay.

I have a Ford nav in mine but mine is the Blaupunkt Travelpilot which is a 1.8 DIN unit like the 7000. Needs a bit more work to get it working but the advantage is that at the moment, updated disks come out every 6 months whereas the VNR units are still working on a 2003 disk which is the latest available (or it was up to a few weeks ago anyway!)

Mine is the simple turn by turn type of unit and no where near as distracting as having the map moving about (I used to have a VNR unit and sold it!)

again (personally),i think the VNR has much bettter sound quality than the 7000 (and the 7000 was good),ok the disc is 2003 (update very soon i have been told by navteq),but i think the colour display is a lot better, and it is a straight forward swap, even the steering wheel control works, pretty easy to use when you get the hang of it,and yoo do have better control over the sound functions as well....
and i just love the automatic speed/volume control.. Wink..
again personal choice, but would not swap the VNR,but cant wait for the updated disc.. Embarassed

Just cant make my mind up Craig I quite like these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/283-6-5-2-Din-In-Dash-TFT-LCD-Touch-Screen-Monitor -DVD_W0QQitemZ5862882575QQcategoryZ32826QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

But I wonder what the sound quality would be like. But i think it might attract the stereo grabbers

I think it will have to be sunvisor monitors and headrest screens
