Thanks, am aware of MyTyres, but never really found them cheaper or worth using in the past.

I live near Milton Keynes which is roundbout City so tyres wear out very quickly, especially with big heavy cars.  I ran a Trans Am for several years once in MK and started off religiously buying Goodyear Eagle Z rated tyres, which back in the years 1995 to 1998 were £130 each, supply only.

After going through these like my wife goes through chocolate (she could make it an An event in London! sport,..and still remains skinny as a rake!), I started using some German tyres which were cheap.  They were unbranded, had the same guaranteed mileage as the Goodyear but ironically lasted alot longer,...for £50 each fitted!

Can't remember what they were though, just remember thinking that tyres are yet another consumable people buy often for the brand name alone and image  Wink

Maybe I will be the first to try the Hexen on the Scorpio to see how they run and last.

My brother has used these on a mondeo estate and says they are okay but the mondeo is his work horse and therefore is often packed with bags of compost and other such garden centre type stuff Tongue
so I reckon in this instance being round in shape is about as much as the tyre needs to do.
having said that when I rang to ask him he said bloody hell ive not looked at them for ages they have chance to be bald.
when he came back to the phone he was shocked at the amount of tread left.
He gave no idea of mileage but he reckons they will last longer than the pirreli's that were on previously.

Cheaper tyres does often last longer than more expensive tyres. Not because of better quality, but because the rubber compound is stiffer, and therefore lasts longer. The drawback is that stiffer rubber equals less grip, especially when the roads get slippery.

True, but I have to say that the cheap ones I used to put on my Trans Am were just as good as gripping in the wet as the Goodyear's, so I don't think all cheapo's can be tarred with the same brush.  And the TA had far more power and torque than the Cossie!

I sell tyres for a living, cheep are no better or worse than expensive, they all pass the same tests for this country. levels of grip & longevityalso seem to have no bearing on the cost. I have tried most makes over the years, very often to destruction. try a local independant garage / tyre shop for best prices, you could be surprised how cheep they can be.

Most of our local tyre places are not necessarily the best deal because Milton Keynes is notorious for excessive tyre wear (suspension too with the many speed bumps around), so it's common knowledge we have to pay a premium over many other places around the Country.

That's why many people like myself source tyres on the Net elsewhere, buying a pair of tyres over the Net should save me about £50 over buying locally (after fitting), and as I'm on disability that's a huge chunk of change in my pocket Wink

I got a set of Avon ZZ3's for my cossie from a place called Carlisle tyres (off the internet) and they were delivered to me within 3 days and cost about £70 a corner - a local tyre "specialist" quoted me £138 each for the same tyres. Thats almost 50% saving and they are the nads.

why not, they all pass the same speed / load rating tests, dont forget there are few tyre manufacturers in the world, they all manufacture 'budget lines' under different names. eg Nankang are manufactured by Yokohama, Corsa by Pirelli ect.

The Nexen 205 65 15H work out at £86.00 pair = so £43.00 each (including postage)

Mytyres have a choice of approx 24 tyres under £43.00, postage included, starting at £28.30, some of them V rated. Or if you want branded, Pirelli P6000 for an extra £2.60 per tyre - £45.60 each.

I'd rather have the choice from Mytyres, who I and several other members have used, and would definitely recommend. http://www.mytyres.co.uk
