24V start-up "chirp"-- reduced!!

Hello All

Just for info. for anyone interested.

Changed engine oil & filter from "what ever it had in it" & aftermarket filter (not very old) to AMSOIL 5W/30 & Motocraft filter.

Changed filter only- added AMSOIL flush then drained old oil - changed filter again & new 5W/30 in.
Cut "25 min used" filter part open - was surprised how un-new it was after 25 mins.
Well worth cost of extra filter.

Whats the differenceHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh??

Although I use "pedal to metal" start proceedure normally I decided to time duration of start-up chirp / brurrp / rattle.
After oil change start-up noise noticable shorter
-using stop watch 0.5/0.4secs now 0.1/0.15
-noise level far less than before.
Engine seems to "spin" faster when cranking.

My conclusion is that thinner oil pumps up tensioner quicker & less pump drag on starter motor. A winnner - as less load on cam chain driving oil pump & reduced chain slapping.

I can only state how it worked for me & results I obtained - YMMV. I'm satisfied & impressed with product - a rare occurance for me these days ( crappy products & abismal service ) - slowly changing all cars onto it.

No flashy adverts - just a brilliant product with an importer who knows his product.

Hi Dave,

sounds like a good result  Smiley

I always change oil/filter every 6 months (4-5000 miles) with Magnatec 5w/30 and Motorcraft filter

I don't use the pedal to metal start method cos it fired up at 4000 revs and I thought I'd have to change my underwear  Shocked  (there's a previous post somewhere) but I've noticed that when I'm starting from cold the engine turns over about 5-6 times then fires up with no rattle.

I dont know if the turn over time is slower than normal or if its likely to lead to problems elsewhere but I'm more than happy with the absence of the dreaded death rattle  Wink

Hello Paul
Had read post on "red line" starting method - so was ready to stop at first hint of firing & dubious about trying it.
Fortunately works OK on mine.
On the oil front notice you are also using 5W/30.
Have you ever used 0W/30 ?
Next oil change will be to AMSOIL 0W/30 - to see if any further improvement.

Good thing about AMSOIL is that manufacturers recommendations are
Oil change 1 / year or @ 25000mile - only add on is that oil filter changed at car manufacturers recommendations.
As I always do Oil & filter @ 3-4000 - whatever the car - MY old fashioned method !!
I now only have to change oil every year - with filter change every 3-4000.

Very bad practice to Gun a cold engine. Can cause cracking in the cylinders etc. It is called shock heating.

They're not gunning a cold engine. What they're doing is turning the engine over on the starter with the throttle wide open. The ECU won't allow the engine to start under those conditions so it allows the oil to flow around the engine as a kind of pre-lube.

When cranking the engine with the throttle wide open, the WOT (wide open throttle) relay tells the ECU to cut power to the injectors. So no fuel is injected hence no start and so no bore wash.
