Yes, u must disable the electrics, though for the compressor, ie pull the fuse & relay. U may also dazzle other motorists if u drive with the veh fully laden. Something to watch out for.

Anyone know if there are self levelling suspension which will fit the saloon? (preferably without the need of electronics or compressor) (Sorry to steal your post)

Beg to differ, my car is a 96 est with compressor, the relay in the glovebox for the cruise control, is only fitted if the veh has traction control.

Just to throw a spanner into the works the handbook for my 94/95 model says in the description of the self-levelling suspension that it is self-pumping when the vehicle is in motion and may take a few miles to achieve the correct height and to check the headlamp levellers. This implies it is using standard self-levelling dampers, not ones with an electric compressor (otherwise it'd reach correct height within seconds, even when stopped). However it lists a fuse and relay in the aux. fusebox for the suspension! My ancient Granada Scorpio (B-reg, first of the rounded shape) had electric self-levelling suspension and that was a hatchback. It didn't work when I got it but turned out to be something simple such as damaged wiring under the rear seat. Was great being able to fool it into jacking right up though - made inspection of the rear end much easier... Darren
