HI I have been a member for some three years now and it often occured to me how helpful it would be if we had a data base of members who have Scorpio spares ie HBC. SATC, Alternater, Starter Motor etc that could be borrowed as a process of problem solutions for example I suspected my HBC was faulty but not to sure and I did not want to go on the garage path, fortunately I traced the owner of a scorp nearby who was willing to let me try his HBC, low and behold my suspions stood up and I sourced another HBC, ok now, supposing a member suspected  that a coil pack was on its way out and he new I had a working one all he would have to do is contact me, I would forward the part to him as a process of illimination and all it would cost him is post and packaging I for one now have a bleed kit, Coil Pack Alternator and some other bits and pieces which members could borrow, christ I gone on a bit here but I think you get my gist, this is a brilliant Forum and this suggestion is to help keeping our cherished scorps on the road by reducing hefty diagnostic and repair bills and as long as Pand P is not cost prohibitive then I think it would a logical step, now shoot me down in flames.

No, it's a good idea.  To add to your list I have an OBD-II code reader/resetter and an auxillary fusebox up for loan.  Postage on the fusebox will be expensive though - it's quite heavy even without fuses and relays!

hi there

i think it's great idea. however....

you need to be careful who you gave bits out to. not everyone is trustfull now a days. Sad lots of new people coming and going (no offence to new member, hopefully you'll understand my concerns). Smiley

better, imo, to put a note in your 'signature' bit, letting people know where you are and what help you can offer.

Might need to take a deposit (postal order) on the value of the item.  Sent back when item returned in original condition.  Does mean everything would have to be posted recorded or special delivery though..

perhaps you could say this item for sale or test

X amount then the person sends cheque to cover cost then if they dont need it when you get item back and verify it was yours you send cheque back

hi there

it's a shame it needs to be that way. the amount of help and parts i've recieved from members has been amazing, but you never can tell who you're dealing with.

I know its early days on this one we need to let it stew for a week or so just to get a good census of opinion.

I must admit it never occured to me that there may be one or two knobheads that browse this superb forum, therefore may I suggest that anyone who takes this up must have been a member for at least four months, it would be such a pity to let this die a death and as for you Baz I have read many of your posts, your contributions and good humour to this forum is truly commendable, as is for many other members.
If this idea doe,s not come into fruition I will still help members out should there be a need

Don't think I've been a member long enough to qualify!

Oh well, to make it easier:  I'm in north Notts. and have an OBD2 code reader and new auxillary fusebox.  I can also help with electrics.

It needs someone to start a database (OH  NO! not data protection) and have it accessable on the web so that people can add their own items and location and email address or user name . It would be wuite easy I am sure for those that know how to do these things.
that way its just a case of contacting the person you need and making private arrangements with regards item(s).

BUT I'm not doing it !

In principal I can see merit in this suggestion. One thing that has always suprised me is the absence of a 'location' on members personal profiles. Simply putting the County or Town/village at least gives others  an idea as to wether they are in a position to offer realistic help. I personally have been able to help some members simply by having met them at the local Kent meets or by seeing that they are local and contacting them. To my mind that simple inclusion would open the door for offers of help which I have never found to be lacking. There are many examples of such help on the Forums and it is this spirit which makes the site so effective. Having established the personal contact any qualms about subsequent dealings are then a matter of choice.

Highlander..... words fail me !!!!!!.  Huh Roll Eyes Of course I KNOW where it is on the profile page. The whole point is most people don't include it so if they post a problem there is no way of knowing if they are local so you can offer help. Have you been on the amber nectar Huh. Don't you say anything rude about us 'Southerners' for a long time !!!. Wink Grin.

Great idea, very hard to make it work, I was envolved with a tools and spares club, you could borrow tools and swap spares, it eventually failed, the biggest problem was getting stuff back. The only way to have half a chance is to have member committment, and the only way is money.A subscription is an option, and it is got to be such to protect expensive items on loan.Just an idea, interesting topic.
Most of the people are honest, but there are a few who let the side down.
I have some spares I would lend out.
