I believe they do but not the other way round. The 2.9 has more break bands to handle the power so a 2.3 one would not work in a 2.9. Someone will be along at some point with the lowdown no doubt.

The 2.9 12v and the diesel use a different box to the 2.0 2.3 and 24v (the same but different) http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/autotrans.htm

12V won't fit as it has a different bell housing & is not fully electronic. A 2.0L will fit but not sure if it has one less brake band? If you tow it could be a problem. Must be a 2.3 box some where?

Don't know about the Granada but all the Scorpio models have a different torque convertor fitted to the boxes.

Don't think the 2.0 L box has sport/ economy modes, also the 2.0 l also gives out 120bhp 8v where as the 2.3 is 145bhp best to ask Ford.

Ford will say no as they go by there parts directory. Most Ford garages know very little about the Scorpio's. The 2.0L 16V will fit, yes the torque converter is different spec wise as it matches the engine power deliverly but will fit as it's the same physically, but you can change that over if you want with a new seal. The 2.0L has less brake bands in them but unless you tow or drive the 2.3 real hard it's not a problem. It would be best to source a 2.3 box but if you can't then a 16V 2.0L is O.K.
