Tried to fit my replacement under engine tray at the weekend (or my brother-in-law did). There was only one fixing in the frame for it and it is a small white plastic body that seems to clip into the frame, then a self tapping screw (Torx) with washer screws into it. I think it was Baz that said his under engine tray fixings were red plastic, and while I was at the local Ford dealer yesterday getting the white plastic fixings I noticed he had some red ones but these were a 'column' type. They seem to clip into the frame in the same manner but because they are taller they allow the tray to be fitted not so flush to the underside of the vehicle. Which are the correct fixings to use?

Mine are red too and the tray fits up tight to the chassis. How long they are, I couldn't tell you

I ran my 2.0l for a week or two without the tray after blasting all the pas fluid off before I replaced the rack. I thought after I took it off that a lot of important bits were very exposed without the tray.

The reds have it, well in my case, and I would not run with out the tray in place.

The car didn't have the tray when I bought it, don't know for how long the previous owner has driven without. I've had the car for over a year now, but haven't really given it much thought. Should perhaps look around for one.

I took a shot of the fixing my brother-in-law removed from the car with the new replacement type I got from Fords. As you can see neither are red. Are those of members who have red fixings the exact same size/shape as thes ein the photo? http://www.easy-sharing.com/493505/torxscrews.JPG.html Scroll down past the ads. there is a hyperlink to the photo.

I have seen white, red & black. It's a common part on all Fords, the colour don't seem to make a difference as they are all the same.

Cool, it's just that when I was in the Ford dealer he got out a big tub of fixings and the red ones in there had the same type of clip fixing for the frame but they were a different design,...like a stand-mount.

Craig there are so many types of fixings you would be amazed. The ones you have are black on a Sierra (front lights etc), white on just about all Ford front inner wing plastic's & usally red in the engine bay area. There are some slightly bigger & smaller as well.
