a 195 is a narrow tyre for a 2.0 8v Scorpio not alone a v6 12v

best to stick to the 225's and as for the 45profile, that will have a few different effects

1. the car will accelerate quicker (although you probably wont feels it as it’s only a small reduction )

2. the top end speed will be reduced and the car will use more fuel as it has to rev higher to achieve the same speed

3. the ride may become a bit more harsh as the less chunky tyre wont absorb as much impact as the 50's

it's more then likely that the wheels were fitted to some other ford which could not take the 225 width

Sorry for stealling the topic but i have a question.

I have the optional lattice alloys 6 J x 15 H2. The car has now a pair of 205 / 60 R15. Would a 225 (55/R15) tyre will stay on the rims ? especialy at high speed cornering or should i stick with the same size.

Sorry for asking here, but i couldn't find additional info about the lattice model rims.  Tongue

a 215 should be ok, but they can be a bit more expensive

a 225 may be a little large, best measure the width of the rim  first using a tape measure (easist with the tyre off if thats possible) then make your own conclusions.

I have tape measured (i have a spare rim) it has a widith of 18cm / 7 inch. On the rim are noted the dimensions 6J x 15. This would meen 6" x 15" where J is the type of the rim profile where it meets the rubber.
So i understand that i have smaller wheels beeing 15" insetead of 16" ??

I'm told you can up or down one size for a given width so if it has 205s then you could get away with 195s or 215s.

those i believe are 15's so that would explain why you have the 6J x 15 size rating

Yes they are, no doubt of it but, my question is that they will "adopt" a larger tyre  Grin

Hey

with a 18cm (118mm) wheel i would say no , a 225 tyre is 4.5 cm (45mm) wider then the wheel (the 205 is already 2cm (20mm) wider)

it would be safer to use a 215/60/15 tyre thats only a 1cm increase in width

Matt

for any one who wants to know heres the break down of the code on your side walls

i'll use the above as an example

215 : this stands for the width of the contact area of the tyre that touches the road. the higher this number is, the wider the tyre will look and you'll have more grip (with a quality tyre of corse Wink )

60: this the tyre wall width the higher the number the chunkier the tyre will look

15: the diamater of the wheel

after all that lot there is normally a letter. this is the speed rating of that tyre

N: 87mph
P: 93mph
Q: 99mph
R: 106mph
S: 112mph
T: 118mph
H: 130mph
V: 149mph
Z,W,Y : all above 150mph

Thanks Matt, now i got it, i don't know why i haven't think about the tire size, didn't know that the 205 are larger with 2 cm. So the next "rubbers" for mr. scorpio will be the same size  Grin

Cheers
