I am planning on doing one next month. Will replace them with a pair of 6" Infinity Kappas. My plan was to cut the covers off the old speakers, make an aluminium fitting for the covers and mount the speakers on to the aluminium fitting, then epoxy glue the covers to the aluminium fitting. Pictures will probably follow in under a month or so

i had started a write up for fitting 6x9's into the standard black plastic units but when testing the speakers i wasnt impressed by their performance so i sent them back, should get some new ones soon so i'll finish the write up.

| That's the problem isn't it, once removed due to the frame work on the rear parcel shelf there isn't enough depth to fit a standard pair of 6x9 speakers. I certainly wouldn't want to start cutting it out but do agree that the standard rear speakers aren't up to much. Shall look forward to seeing your progress Mike

That's exactly my reason for choosing a pair of 6" standard round speakers instead, as they are far more shallow than most 6x9"s or 5x7"s. Besides, the Kappa 6" speakers _should_ be more than up to the task, especially as I'm fitting a Kappa Perfect VQ 12" in the boot Edit: Not 110% sure that those Kappas will fit, and I haven't bothered to measure just yet as I don't have the time or money until next month. If they don't fit, there is a few smaller siblings to the Kappas that will definately fit. My plan was to find the largest set of round Kappa speakers that will fit in the mounting hole.

All components now ordered. After measuring a bit, I found that the 42.7i should fit without a problem in the front, and the 52.7i should fit nicely in the back. From my measurements it is 3-4 cm from the parcel shelf to the bottom of the mounting holes, BUT the original speakers sit a couple of cm up in the speaker covers, so if I use a wooden fitting instead of aluminium in the rear, I should be able to lift them enough to make them fit. Picture will follow. Eventually

Basicly a pair of these. I'm planning on cutting out a set of wooden spacers which will (hopefully) fit nicely into the speaker covers.
